show me your AR9's

the red dot is an "inspected by" sticker. mine were inspected by 5. my serial #'s are K 010685 and K 010746.

Kelly, pull your mid bass and see what it looks like. my baskets are the same with the only identifying marks pictured. they have the same stamp on basket, 561 8008. on the cone that i think is original, there is a handwritten # on the spider. the obviously replaced cone has no handwriting. both spiders have the stamp #2727. the handwriting on the back was from the tech that did the refoam\recone work. maybe i'll call the phone number and see if he's there.

Interesting Scott, the ones posted below your post by Danamc has the surround like yours so I would say the ribbed one is a recone. Odd that these came with different surrounds / cones (yours and Danamc). Your baskets do look original.

The model number of importance is the 200027 I think. Per this list I found somewhere (can't remember now ), Looks like the originals.
thanks for the confirmation Kencat, thats how i had it figured.

that was given in my mind. the recone (ribbed) cone also uses a different surround than the original cone. now that you have me looking closely at them i am wondering if the foam on the original cone is something the tech had lying around and not to original spec.

edit: the surround on my original cone looks like the surrounds on Danamc's. maybe its the picture, but my cone is a much deeper and darker shade than the blue cones in his pic.

nitrous, bolly and mine look the same, yours and Danamc look different and have that angled surround ID.

My new babies. Hopefully will have them in a week or so. I do notice that the high mid drivers are different than those in other photos. :scratch2: These will take the place of the 3As currently on duty with the tuner rack.
do you have a Luxman R-117 too?. makes a pretty darn good match with the AR-9 imo.

woo hooo Danamc! now how you gonna get em?

They're being shipped via BAX Global. I've had great luck with BAX when shipping heavy stuff. I just hope the seller packs 'em well. :sigh: He's gonna strap the individual boxes to a 55" wooden pallet, which hopefully will keep 'em in one piece. :worried:

Still curious about the AR9/AR badging issue on the speaker grill. :scratch2: Only reference I have is an AR9 brochure from arsenal.net.

My AR9s

My AR9s have the following serial #s: AR9K008387 & AR9K008418. The guy I got them from was the brother of the original owner. He's not sure when his brother purchased them, but he replaced almost all of the drivers 6 years ago with replacements from AR. And he didn't keep the original drivers.

baby steps...

remember this?

here's what it looks like today. moved to the left wall and got some seperation for the 9's, still not 3' but its better than it was. initial results are quite good.

the next step is to get a suitable rack for the receivers and cdp. if i can ever get the 9's to the other end of the room it would be best.

That looks a lot better.

Now you can put your AR-91s as surrounds behind the listening seat, junk that old Yamaha and Luxman, and pick up a nice, 10lbs 300wx7 home theater receiver and enjoy your movies in style.

sounds like a plan, nothing over 10lbs though.

Got the final word on the AR9/AR badge issue from a guy who used to build the AR9 speakers here in Massachusetts. He tells me they used to build 7-8 AR9 speakers per day starting in 1978, and ending in 1982.

In the first year the AR9 was built, the grill cover and badge were different from the following years. The first year had the "AR" only badge, and the nipples holding the grillcover in place were attached to the inside of the grillcover.

Apparently there was an issue with these nipples being lost when removing the grillcovers. So, the following year the nipples were placed within the wood cabinet, and the badge changed to "AR9".

So those AR9s with the "AR" only badge were made in the first year. :thmbsp:
