Show me your HORNS!!!

They do require IMO a bit of eq (cut in the mid not boost) but they sound really nice and they do image very well. A lot like my diy 1400 Arrays which you can see behind them. They also have incredible low end for 2 6"ers!! :D

Super-cool! They look just like the 590s. Just a mite smaller?

Mr. Z is definitively a perfectionist, beautiful set-up! :tresbon:

Thanks, Bob! :D

Yep! But the Cherry finish is pretty difficult to come by. I also picked up the 560P in cherry!! :D

Very pretty. So would you say the Studio 580s are better than the older TOTL home JBLs from, say, the 80s? (I hesitate to list models here, and I realize that "better" is a very vague term.)

There are some trade-offs but over all I would say yes. The 590 being the TOTL and matched accordingly. I just did not want a speaker that big.

The horn is, well....... JBL!! What can I say!! :music:

BTW imaging and sound stage are far and away better, just think 4430's!:thmbsp:

No theater, just 2 channel!

It's a lot off Overkill, I uses in my system only a Amp (tube) 2 x 6 watt and believe me, there is no way that I could open the channels for full.

W.I.G.N. do You have such an installation in such a small room??
Looks more like a Hoarder? :scratch2:

I'm not sure you are qualified to make such an assumption since you have no idea what any of it does or how I use it in my system.

Hoarder? :scratch2: Humm no just a DIY'er and we DIYers need parts to play with.

I am not a tube fan and nor should you try to make me one. I have tried them and don't care for them. "Maybe" I should tell you that YOUR tubes suck even though I have never heard them.
That would be silly of me to say such a thing.

I like my SS gear and I use it in many configurations most of which I am sure you would not appreciate so I am sorry that YOU do not approve but here at my place I approve and I like it quite a bit!

I am sorry that you can not just appreciate other peoples systems for what they are and you feel that you need to thread crap based solely on your opinion. That is narrow minded at best. :thumbsdn:

For the others here, Thanks for the input and any open minded AK'er who would like to listen is welcome most anytime!!:D

Hey junior, I ordered a pair of 580's this week from the mothership, should be here in a couple days. Considered the 590's but would be kinda big for the room. Wondered how the 550P is doing with the 580's? I'd imagine I'd want to set the sub x-o as low as it would go (50 Hz) or nearly so. Any sub would have a hard act to follow, since I'm used to the excellence of a REL Stentor III.

But I've read of reliability probs with some of JBL's previous self-powered subs, i.e. the amps burning out prematurely. As you probably know, Harman is run by bean counters now. It's not the JBL of old, except once in a while they make a decent line like this 500 series (designed by Greg Timbers).

Also, have you experimented yet with raising the 580's a few inches to get the horns' center closer to seated ear level? I have a feeling that's what I'll be doing.

Anyway, grats getting the cherry version (sick of everything in audio being black). I can't find them anywhere but overpriced on the Euro or Japan market. Seems they're all sold out in the States, and won't be any more since JBL has discontinued this series. :(

AG it is quite sad that they are so hard to get. My boxes said 4-2012 for a manufacture date.

It is true that JBL has a problem with their amps in the subwoofers. It will fail very soon if it is going to, from what I have heard.
Make sure to keep the box so you can send it in if you have a problem.

I also have the sub at 50hz and about 1/2 - 2/3rds on the gain.

The 550 was a bit more boomy compared to the 560 and I wouldn't have bought one if it was in black because I have plenty of sub drivers.
I really wanted a set for the living room that the better half would like to see in her house!

I have played with position a bit and they do sound good off the floor a bit.

GT did a fantastic job with these for their price point that is for sure. The 590's do really well but they are quite a bit bigger and I could not get them in Cherry!

I really like the looks of them that is for sure. Congrats on your soon to be set up pair as well!!:music:

Good info to know then on the 550P. I'll skip that purchase for now until I've spent some time with the 580's. If they don't have the bottom end I'm looking for, I might get the 590's (though JBL is backordered on them until June D: ). I don't expect Stentor or 4645C bass from them ;) but I'd like reasonable 40'ish extention w/o boom in the 50-120 Hz range.

You may have seen this write-up & test results for 590's. http://www.avhub.com.au/images/stories/australian-hifi/reviews/2013/2013-08/jbl-studio-590-loudspeakers-review.pdf Looks like the brightness is in the 5-10k range, but isn't spiky and not hard to correct. Don't know how these curves would extrapolate to the 580's smaller horn, but probably not too far off.

I would guess similar as that is about what I have done. The 580's have pretty incredible bass response IMO.

GT has said his fave's are the 580's. :D

BTW there are still a pair of 590's here in Denver.

Welp, anything OK by our man GT is OK by me. I'll have to say, "What, me worry?"

:D

Just remembered the Auralex AmpDudes. Would raise them a few inches, clean up some stray resonances, and help isolate from downstairs neighbors. There goes another 100 bucks!

A few places (Amazon, etc.) still have some 590's in black. If those in Denver were Cherry, I'd jump on them today.

Jensen Speakers

I have a pair of Jensen TB-10 Tri-Ette speakers. As you guessed it a three-way with a Tweeter Horn, mid driver and what looks like a 10” woofer. Could be a solid walnut cabinet with a horn control on the back. I am looking for information and a sound opinion on them.

I haven’t got to them yet as I have a butch of old AR’s to work on from the same source.

Does anyone have any knowledge or anything about them.

Thanx
