Show off your Aquarium!

I had a 55 gal back in the early 90's. Eventually I only had one large Oscar and a large Pacu. Then, the Northridge Quake happened. Anyone want to guess what happens when almost 60 gallons of fish water hits carpet? No aquariums since then but I've been thinking about it. Not many earthquakes in GA...
 
I started to get a purple algae that is usually associated with salt water tanks and it was covering everything above the gravel. Did some research and found that Siamese and Chinese algae eaters would eat it. So I bought 2 of each all about 2" long along with a couple of mystery snails who are also are eating it.

Here's a before and after over a span of 3 days. It's a 36 gallon tank.

Nope. I got the Oscars first. Had them for 2 years before adding the Pink JD. Then a year later added the regular JD. They all get along pretty well. They'll bicker from time to time, but nothing serious. The jag, however, will tear anything and everything up.

Peace in the the tank is good. I had an EBJD and loved it. I had him in with the dollars and it was fine til he got a bit bigger. Then he started harassing them. Those things are lightning quick. Ended up breaking his back (we think) thrashing around chasing them. Quarantined him but the damage was done and he didn’t recover.

I'd forgotten this thread. I re-did CripZen a couple months ago and here's what it's like now.
And Sanford, I remember promising you plants. Wait until the weather gets warm enough and remind me and I'll ship you a bunch.
It grows out so much that every couple of months, I'll "prune" it, filling a tub with the excess.

That's a shame. A few days ago I tried saving my 10" Clown Knife. Have no clue how he got a bacteria infection similar to hole in the head. I quarantined him in the 50g and bombarded it with meds to no avail. It got worse and I had to put him down via clove oil. Sux big time when you do everything possible to save your fish pal and you lose it.

Wow nice! Wish I could have a planted tank. The psychos I have don't like plants and will shred them to pieces. I tried a few times and every time it ends the same: plants destroyed, lol.

I had some black-nosed Dace in with my goldfish for a while....tiny ones that would swim in a school...fun. They lived for several years. Would eventually grow, and get fat. I don't think they were designed to live in a tank !

I also had a crayfish for a short while....fascinating to watch, but not fair to the fish to have a predator in the tank.

Thanks Phil. I finally sprang for a nice full spectrum LED and that showed almost immediate results

PS: if you look in the middle of the photo, that cover is up because the giant Amazon below has created a reef of flowers and baby plants above, including the growth hanging out in front!

I had crayfish when I was a kid. My old man and I fed him generously. He would come out of his cage and wave his claws at the fish, but never nailed one. Kind of like an old man yelling at a cloud.
 
Had aquariums in my teens, and was quite good at keeping them. Have often thought about getting into the hobby again, but with the harsh water treatment chemicals that they use in our metro water system, as well as being in earthquake country, I’ve given it a pass. I’ve got enough expensive hobbies on my hands, but really do love the mesmerizing effect of watching an aquarium! Beats the heck out of staring at yet another screen!

Protein skimmer as I’ll run 2 small fish, a maroon clown and maybe a 2 spot goby.

In the process of setting up my nano reef, it’s an AquaMaxx 9.6gal (low iron glass).

Waiting for a few little odds and ends for it, got the light in recently, it’s the Hipagero 30w LED, should be great for coral growth. :)
