Last was a bit bright. I turned off the HF boost and turned the Brilliance from Max to Min. Let's try this one. She has one of the hardest voices to get just right because of her style.

Again, this is an SACD on an Oppo-95 through a Yamaha RX-Z9 Receiver from 2003 with >35,000 hours on it. This is in "Pure Direct" mode and there is no eq or room correction either electronic or physical being used.

Anyhow, if you can get a hold of a good mic (I really, really like large condenser ones for music), a mixer, and can record it to your laptop as a Wave file... You won't believe the SQ difference. Even if the mic placement or room sound treatment isn't optimal.

You can play the music at 100dB, no problem. The problem is that these mics are so sensitive — they will pick up every wart and pimple in your setup and room. I spent a long time just getting the phono pre-amp and turntable's background noise as low as possible. Then it becomes a matter of the source quality, sound panels, and a lot of trial-and-error recordings.

With a good large condenser mic, the frequency range can be very close to flat, 20 to 20 kHz. With a well over 120dB dynamic range.

It has been 6-1/2 years since I recorded this, I don't believe I posted it because I wasn't happy with how it came out but that sometimes happens with a live recording of a live recording of a live recording, the YT compressions had a chance to pull the life out of it twice and my untreated room had fun with the rest. Original video was from KenRick's YT channel and I believe he lost this when his channel got too many strikes. Apologies for the sound, but it is what it is. I forget the name of the artist, it is a Japan only release and I did try and find a copy of it at the time, this is probably my favorite version of this song.


Edit, I found the original recording from KenRick, it appears he got it uploaded again years ago.



Our listening time has been cut way down, the wife can no longer navigate the stairs so we listen to the little Genesis Physics speakers in the living room, they do OK there. I have been working on the 89 Corvette almost daily for going on 3 years now. It has kept me busy and my second heart attack happened in May so I have had to slow down a little.

Not sure if anyone else is a gear head, so forgive me. I have changed or repaired just about everything on this poor old car and it is not the same car I started with in just about every way.

We have a '91 coupe with all the options that came with the automatic transmission. Car has like 63K miles on it now.

Awesome! I originally was looking for a 91 six speed, but they are very desirable and the ones I found were in terrible condition and way overpriced. I love the Turquoise Metallic, it was one of the best colors. If you are a member of Corvette Forum, I have a somewhat large thread detailing everything I have done to the car. I have no idea how many miles mine has on it, the speedometer and odometer gear was out for for almost 10 years before I got the car and fixed it, the 134k it shows is not correct.

Yes, I am a member of the Corvette Forum but usually the C1/C2. I just sold my '64 restomod last November. I've had it since 1984. It was transported from LA to Memphis. Luckily, this was before the cost of diesel skyrocketed.

Stunning car with a great legacy! The C2 was what started my love for Corvettes. When I was young a neighbor has a red 67 427 tri-power that he cruised around in, one day it got away from him and he crashed it into a telephone pole. It was a sad day. I got the C4 because it was cheap and most parts are still available and it is still easy to work on. It has served it's purpose, keep me busy and moving. I am running out of things to do with it so now I am going to make it a little faster, better flowing stock (ish) intake, heads and cam. I just finished up long tubes and built my own exhaust and I also replaced the antiquated ECU this past winter.

Is your equipment from Kendricks Sound? He has some of the most bitchin' JBL setups. Do you live in Japan?

From the aftermarket, I have the plenum air foil, the K&N air filter, and the HP brake bias spring with Andy Porterfield brake pads on the '91. I can't do engine mods because I live in CA and even though the car is 35 years old, I still have to put it through smog every other year. And, it has to go on the wheel dyno so needs a special smog station and costs much more to do. Always just barely passes and has been that way since it was brand new. Basically about the only time it gets driven anymore.

I also have a stereo conversion to run JBL amps mounted in the rear hatch. But the Bose speakers are only 1 ohm each so I have to series a resistor on each one!

Fortunately here in Central Texas we no longer have emissions testing, I still run a cat, I don't like gas fumes in the shop and it is the responsible thing to do. The headers are Hooker 1-3/4" going into a 3" Y-Pipe to a MagnaFlow Cat branching into 2-2.5" pipes and Borla mufflers. It is wrapped in DEI titanium wrap from the headers to the mufflers. Heat management is tough because of the convertible X-Brace but I covered what I could with aluminum heat shield and protected the wires with heat shielding. Design Engineering Inc. loves me now, their stuff really hurts the budget. :rflmao:



I have gone way overboard with the stereo in the C4, the original Bose was long gone and sound systems are tough in a convertible. Front speakers are Kappa 6.5's in a modified OEM box, rear fill are Polk DB522's in custom boxes/amp rack, Kicker 8" Solo-Baric fitted into the passenger side rear cubby with an extended port going over to the drivers side cubby and all powered by a Stinger MT-1000.5 1200 watt 5 channel amp. Head unit is an Atoto 10.5" floating screen. This was either the 4th or 5th iteration of the stereo, I am keeping it as is now since it meets all of my objectives. It takes up very little room which is crucial since the vert has no real trunk space and you can hear the stereo at highway speeds with the top down. The sub build was a whole lot of figuring out, weeks of design and weeks to build, but it is tuned to approx. 28hz which is really low for an 8" square sub.

They are probably one of the cleanest mid-fi car audio speakers you can get. Mine are Kappa 62iX which is now discontinued, I have them in the C4 as well as my Yukon Denali XL where they really shine. I got lucky and found a pair of NOS. The C4 is noisy being a convertible but in the uber quiet Yukon they really come to life. There is an "updated" version of this speaker but the quality isn't the same, shame on Harmon for cheaping out on their Kappa line. They play well into the low 40hz area which is impressive for a 6.5" speaker with 96db sensitivity. In short, I think they are great. I need to take another video of them in the C4 now that everything is tuned with the oscilloscope.

Hi Todd, I'm curious what that JBL 3 way stack consists of? And.. How you arrived at that particular combination. :)
And are we listening to those on the recording, or?
