Show us your dinner - no home cooking

Very cool! Haven't seen you around in awhile. Hope all is well!
I know huh? I was counting back, and I'd say it's been around 7 years I kind of faded into the woods and stopped getting onto the forum. Just been so busy with life, and even got away from music quite a bit.

We've been doing great. My wife is looking at retiring at the end of 2025, and I'm looking at working until I'm 125.. LOL.. I actually quit my well tending job the end of July, and was working around here trying to get a lot of projects done I didn't have time to do the last 4 years... Now most of them are done, and I'm just waiting to start working again first of the year, so here I am :) . I'll be back to no time to do things around the 'stead again after I start.. OH WELL. at least I'll have lots of money for guns and guitars again.. LOL...

Hope things have been good for you. Was I thinking right you retired around the time I kinda quit coming around here? 6-7 years ago?

Good that you're doing well! I was gone for awhile and didn't listen to music much. Probably because I moved to Maui awhile ago. Life has been good. Hanging around AK again in the past year, got me back into music.

I'm an artist and artists don't retire. :)

I thought you must have moved, because I sure didn't remember you being in Maui... Said that the other night to my wife when I saw your picture.. Just didn't lok like the place I remembered you being? maybe Cali I was thinking?

oooohhhh.. and that Dim Sum looks GREAT! I miss being able to get food like that!

Yup, I was in California for 40 years. Left the race. Spend lots of time at the beach now. :)

Leftovers from my yearly volunteer gig where we cook 1100+ traditional Christmas dinners, and deliver them to homeless shelters, addiction centres and the like.
A duck leg, two slices of pork roast, extra crackling, potatoes, sauce and braised red cabbage:

We were lucky to borrow an almost brand new kitchen at a convention centre, which was great to work in - lots of space, two walk-ins, blast chiller, more gastro trays than I've ever seen in one place, tables on wheels so we could set up stations however we needed. And we could drive the cars inside to load up

There was none of the usual fighting for oven space this year :D

Haus Bistro, Calimesa CA.
I usually eat cheap, Coco's, Breakfast Diners, Burritos, but once in a while I like to do something special.
I waited all day for Fed-Ex to deliver a package, so I didn’t eat until after 5:00pm. Good thing too.
I plan to eat my way through the Menu of this place, slowly, once or twice a month, so I don't get fat.

Jaeger Schnitzel, topped with a creamy mushroom and onion sauce. Roasted Potatoes, & Spaetzle. Never had Spaetzle before and it was delicious.

Followed up with an Apple Strudel & Ice Cream, one of the best desserts I've ever had, and it was enormous.

So the wife and I went out for breakfast at our local cafe, The Little Gull in Speonk, NY. A fantastic little place with a handful of tables located in the old ticket office of the train station. Everything is house made, the breads and biscuit are excellent and the chef worked at several well known NYC restaurants. As I said we went for breakfast but the lunch specials looked awesome so we went that route. This is the wife’s order, the duck breast ramen, just fantastic. Sorry I demolished my roast beef sandwich on sourdough with melted cheddar and horseradish sauce before the wife could get a decent photo.

sausage, brocc rabe & orrechiette w/ evoo + garlic at “Touch of Italy” in Rehoboth Bch., De.

the owners are Bronx, NY transplants. I am told that in the beginning, they made almost daily runs back to the Bronx (Arthur Ave.) to get the “good stuff” that wasn’t available locally. in addition to the great food, atmosphere and service, there is a full service Italian deli, bakery and a soon to be expanded grocery section featuring bottles of their very excellent sauces!

edit: my only complaint is that even though we have a house in Bethany Bch. DE (15-20 mins away from Rehoboth), we live & work in NY and only get down there whenever the stars and our days off align. well, that and also Iit gets BUSY during the rental season!

Back to the Haus.Bistro.

Jambalaya & Bananas Foster. Jambalaya was okay, not great.

This OTOH...

Your jambalaya looks kinda soupy more like gumbo. On the other hand, it still looks good and I’m the first to say there aren’t many rules in cajun cooking. Except for sacrilege like cream of mushroom soup in classic dishes like étouffée.

i went to a local sports bar/restaurant that my wife and I enjoy. This is called Bayou Pasta. It has fried shrimp over pasta with a crawfish cream sauce. This is a favorite of nine at this place.
