They're not exactly new, as I built them about 3 or 4 years ago, took them to AK Fest 2007, and have not felt the need to build another speaker since, really. The top part is the "Natalie P", a design from the forum over at HTGuide, and the bottom part, the "Maxx", I designed myself with woofers from some Optimus 9's and NHT.

Here is a pair of Karlson K12 "Karlsonette" I finished a couple of weeks ago. I have a more detailed post in DIY about them, so here is a new picture taken in my listening room, loaded with Richard Allan CG10T:

Here are my FrankenBose 201 Series II speakers.

BTW they sound very good in my small living room where I typically keep the volume down and only use a T amp to power them. Listening to Michael Buble right now and his voice is sweet and the bass playing with him can be easily heard.

So here's the story.....

Bought some Bose 201 Series II cabinets with crossovers and grilles for $4 because they were in very good shape and I thought they may come in handy for a project down the road. :scratch2:

So about 2 weeks ago I bought some Boston Acoustic A40's for $10 and I look at the woofers and see no need to refoam them. :thmbsp:
Take em' home and listen and the bass jut didn't shine through like I thought they should and then I get curious and inspect the woofers. The last owner replaced the originals with Dayton DC160-8 6-1/2" Classic Woofers and I plugged in the speaker parameters and found out this woofer would work better in a ported box. Put some numbers into WinISD that simulated the Bose 201 box and BINGO!!! - looked like a decent fit.

So out came the A40 woofers, tweeters and crossovers and put them into the Bose 201 cabinets and now I have some pretty decent pair of speakers for $14. Not bad, not bad at all.

The Visaton drivers were not bought looking like this. I made the flanges from aluminum.

Using my router with a 1/4 round to smooth the edge!

Sounds great. A friend of mine,who has a Paradigm 15 servo, borrowed it just after I got it all together, to see how it stacked up against the Paradigm.
He preferred the sound of the Rythmik and ordered a kit for himself.

It's the 12" driver manufactured by T.C. Sounds, for Rythmik. Based on the TC1200. The shell is a 16" floor tom, 11 ply maple. The end caps and base are red oak, with 1.5" MDF inserts.
