My veneer is still about a week out so
I've been playing around with the cabs.
sealed or ported. for now ported sounds
better to me.

I love the idea of taking the old Sony speaker design to the "next level." And not only is the design cool, your ability to replicate shows amazing woodworking (and math) skills!

Have the Frankenstein's completed except ESS AMT's. Thanks Ricky for the name. Still have several options for location of the AMT's. On the on the plinth, loose, mounted? Also final signal path/components to the AMT's. Will arrive from ESS mid week.View attachment 2175729

Thanks for the offer on plex but the AMT and plinth are now hard mounted on top. Procrastinating grill/covers while the mancave gets new flooring and paint

Nice. I can never get pine to stay flat and not warp when ripped into small slats like what you used for grill frames. Maybe it's the type of pine harvested on the west coast? I always have to go with a hardwood for things like that.

I've had real good luck finding
nice flat pine boards at home depot.
they dont warp at all when i cut them.
I pick out really straight grain boards though.

After finally giving up on my A7-500 cabinets, doing many mods, these speakers are just to huge for what little bass they put out. I always dreamed of owning a pair of Altec Model 19's. I finally took the plunge and headed off to the hardware store for some plywood. The project is far from complete as you can see. From the moment i got everything connected and hit the power switch, I'm in love.
