Why did you lay them on their sides?
Just to be different. They sit on top of a pair of AMT II's which have a Great Heil mounted with vertical orientation. So I have both orientations.. The design allows me to re-orient them vertically if I wish.
 
Have the Frankenstein's completed except ESS AMT's. Thanks Ricky for the name. Still have several options for location of the AMT's. On the on the plinth, loose, mounted? Also final signal path/components to the AMT's. Will arrive from ESS mid week.20210327_104918.jpg
 
Those will be beautiful dressed in a good veneer. That full set of angles must really do a good job of canceling reverberation. Magnets under the skin?
 
ESS's new facility is up and running! The AMT's came 5star packed from the shelf packaging to the heaviest cardboard shipper I have seen in forever. Unpacking and inspection went flawless. I could not find a single negative. Both units tested at 4.1 ohm vs new 25w 4 ohm ceramic resistor benchmark. Picture shows AMT's almost home. Felt and foam will go for final assembly over the weekend. I now have a better idea for the grill. Will stick with the ESS AMT1 as a guide. No outside visable frame. Fabric top block but with a tall front panel to include the 2-10's. Should finish this weekend except grills.

The shape doesn't matter for low frequencies which have wavelengths longer than the internal dimensions. The shape makes a difference for higher frequencies, above (roughly) 800Hz or so.
Btw, standing waves inside the cabinet show up a wiggles in an otherwise smooth impedance plot and show up quite easily if you do an impedance measurement.

Yes! And after determining the wavelength at the wiggle point, the standing wave direction (vertical, X or Y) can be sussed and then more wall felt can be added...if it's vertical like my standing wave the additional felt padding was added to the top and bottom.
 
Finished the ESS Frankensteins last night. Except the grill/covers. Very happy. Hope to get the primary power for them off the bench soon and start another speaker project for the Akai AA-1175. The NAD 4080 wates on a full cap kit.

Are those going to remain on those stands? Seems the tweeter is very high unless you stand all the time. I would have been temped to place the AMT between the mid-woofs.
