Very nice! Is that the original wood or did you remake? I just put the cabinet on my ST-5000FW and it is also very nice. Found a NOS. Finish looks similar. Glad it worked out well for you. :thmbsp:

Thanks. I kept it completely original except for the mat and the motor isolators. Also replaced the original shading lacquer on the teak with tung oil.

The 6200 at auction with the shutoff problem just closed at $306 :yes:. I noted they quoted you in the text.

I almost passed on the 6046A, the guy wanted $2.00, it was at a flea market and I don't think he wanted to lug it home. I've only used the FM and it works exceptional. The previous owner had a 1' wire with a spade connector on the end for the antenna and it grabs stations better then any of my other receivers (notice the meter is all the way to the right). The dust on the left side by the glass is just paper from cleaning. It has a beautiful wood cabinet with mitered edges. As with most vintage Sony, the industrial design is top notch. The 5011 Turntable is in near mint condition although it is plastic not wood. I think the belt is broken so I haven't gotten around to using it. Can someone shed light on why the sticker on the back says "Made In Switzerland." Very hefty, clocking in around 20 lbs, even with a plastic base.

I would have paid the 'price' for the 6200f if it did not have the shut off problem. The physical condition of the unit was A1. Sometimes one has to be patient.

Wilke87, Don was your uncle? He was really a nice person. I first spoke to him when I was supporting the defence team of U.K. speaker companies against a patent infringement suit in Japan and was researching the development of the bi-wire independent ground side crossover. While AR and KLH had a bi-wire crossover with a common ground, it turned out that Art and his team in developing the Z412HP actually developed the true bi-wire crossover but never took a patent on it thinking it was simply too evident a design. Don was involved in the development. Don rebuilt the crossovers of my 412HPs and supplied me with 2 new replacement woofers and had me on a list in the event he ever came across a set of Z824HPs that I'd love to have again - my 1st wife got them in the divorce.

I was sad to hear of his passing a few years ago as he was 1 of the the last links between generations of speaker system designers and of course one of the last known persons intimate with the JansZen speaker history who actually was there and worked with them.

Stoffie - What does an N7 "service kit" consist of?

This 'service kit' consists of 4 new big caps (27000µF if I'm not mistaken). I have a burst cap in my N7 and just replacing all of them because of that. Then for the rest a bunch of smaller caps to recap the rest of the amp, bipolar transistors, heatpads, resistors... and some other stuff to apply some of Mirko's mods :yes: for a total of 116 parts...

In short I should have me a perfectly 'new' N7 after the overhaul :drool:

Very nice! How about some pic's along the way? A nudie or two of the N7 as you start opening her up and then the occasional pic as you move along. "Sounds" like a great journey. I'm doing the same with a sub-woofer kit am putting together today.

Thanks! It took a long time to grab that much info about the ER1, GR1 and SS-A5/S. I still have more on the A5 and ER1 but couldn't find the papers so that will make for updates.

...awww, that TC-K88B of mine really is new - it smells like it after warming up and playing a C90 tape. That smell means: I have at least ten years with it with no problems. And given I now seldom play Compact Cassettes... it may even see 2020 or even 2030.
