Sorry Glenn - no digital camera.
The one on my cellphone does work well but can only spit them images out to a PC and I'm a Mac addict...
Just imagine a multivoltage TC-K88B built in '79, taken out of its box for the 1st time circa 1980, played for half a day then stored away.
...sleep forward to december 16, 2003 and you have my K88B.
For the remote, you can skip the "taken out of its box for the 1st time circa 1980, played for half a day" part and sleep forward directly to today: I opened the box to see if it hooked ok and worked -it does- and I put it back in its box
Man is that motorized drawer a pleasure to use! Not a single piece of plastic: only profiled aluminium and mech. gears and its still sounds as silent as can be and closes with a firm (but discreet) click!
And if the best meters I've seen still are Sony's PPM, just under them are these large, deep, LCDs.

Used to own some vintage Sony receivers. First one was an STR-6120 FM receiver that my uncle gave me. Left channel was dead. Had the transistors replaced with fresh ones, and it became stereo again. About a year later, the power supply started developing a hum. Gave it to a friend in 2001, who used it as his garage stereo.
Second was an STR-7065 with a broken glass piece in front of the dial, and an intermittent connection issue in the preamp circuits. Got that one for $40 off eBait in 1999. Gave it to another friend in 2002.
Third was an STR-VX4 with a flaky balance control. A $14.99 Value Village special. Worked nicely, except for the intermittent cutting out of the right channel. Originally bought it last year for use as an FM tuner for my STR-AV910 that killed the FM side of its tuner board. Eventually just replaced the STR-AV910 with another and gave the STR-VX4 and the old 910 to the same friend who got the 6120 from me.
Currently, the most vintage piece of Sony gear we own is a Sony KV-2792R TV. Second oldest is the current STR-AV910. Newest is probably the WMA/MP3 compatible discman that's sitting on the shelf above my stereo equipment.
My current system consists of Sony electronics from 1991-92 (STR-GX59ES, TC-RX77ES tape deck, CDP-C75ES CD changer), an old 1968-vintage Dual 1009SK turntable with Ortofon M20FL cartridge, and a pair of Infinity SM155's.

Only Sony anything I own at the moment is a pair of MDR-V600 'phones I got for Christmas. I like them, a lot more musical than my Koss UR-29s.

I used to be 242GT-Ti on Turbobricks. Owned a black 242 Turbo that looked like a '79 Canuck GT. Still have it, but it's in pieces now and never to see the road again, since it was tweaked in the rearend.
Anyway, to bring the thread back on-topic, I may try to get the STR-6120 back from my buddy. He said that it died recently, so I'll have him fix it, pay him the price of the parts, and bring it back home. Maybe hook it up to the RSa's for use as an upstairs stereo system. I am selling the SM155's, since they are a bit too large for this room. Currently eyeing a pair of Polk Monitor 5's and a pair of Monitor 7's. Also saw a pair of Monitor 4's that seem enticing at the $50 price.

That STR-6120 is a highly sought after piece of gear and worthy of having one of the good techs on AK go though and return to its glory. A true classic.Volvo242GT said:

Looks like the 6120 will be coming back home. FM tuner seems to be out. IIRC, when it started flaking out on me, the power supply had a pretty serious hum. Would have to leave it on for a while. Then, the lights would turn on fully, the power supply would get quiet again, and the FM reception would return.

Almost 7 weeks ago I posted a pic of my TAE 8450 pre amp and I just had a chance to put it into rotation when a new stand came into the room.
WOW it is true what your mother always said ( running with pointy objects) and these PPM meters are hard to describe.The best I can say is they seem organic in use not mechanical. Nothing I have seen up till now compares. And yes there are more knobs & switches than the cockpit of a plane.
As for my thoughts on the sound, pretty sweet although there was an amp change also that will require some more listening to compare the real character of this pre amp. At one point I was getting no sound output but just had to remember to keep the flaps up and my eye on the runway. Had it back on course in no time

IMO the meters are more organic/analog than any other instrument I ever saw. But the best: That preamplifier looks much better in real life than on any photo I ever saw, it´s really pure gold of an golden age.
Regarding sound quality I have the following hint for you:
You should try the headphone outputs as outputs for your amplifier. One of my amplifiers sounded much better on the headphone plug. The included headphone amplifier has the complexity of a power amplifier and is able to drive any cable load like nothing ...

the meters on the TAN-8550 are mechanically the same, but they are scaled in watts. Are your´s still with EW ?
I had to find a lamp for one of my PPMs, was´ not easy to find the right lamp with the correct lenth and straightness of the filament.
My reference for comparison is a Yamaha CDX-10 modified as a drive and a homebuilt DAC, which is now 10 years old ... Sounds not very impressive on the paper, but much better in real life
The SONY I´ll take for comparisons will be the CDP-X5000, which is internally a simplified CDP-XA7ES without the XLR symmetrical outputs.
I´m sure the SCD-777ES will outperform the X5000 (sounds for me not really impressive) and at least equal the Yamaha/DAC combo on CD. With SACD´s there will be for sure no comparison ...
Let´s hope that after some tweaking it will be really state of the art (the money I paid for the player asks for that). What I read on many places in the web is, that today´s multichannel SACD players have no chance against a tweaked SCD-777ES or it´s twin the allmighty SCD-1, while playing in Stereo.

Thanks for the info. I am trying to decide if I want to jump on a DVP-S9000ES, which are selling for decent prices these days (<$500). Would prefer the SCD-1 or -777ES, but money is the issue........as always. Do you know anything of the DVP-S9000ES? Good or bad?
EW has completed the TAN-8550, but I didn't want it shipped during our Xmas rush, so he will be sending along next week. There is enough risk without having the part-time employees getting involved. Am not sure of his schedule on the TAE-8450, which I would also like to have. But, we shall see.
