Have to get a digital camera this week. In fact this is the show me your Sony thread. Apart from a light being out everything is ok. The sound is robust but the tuner is not as sensitive as the 6800. The fascia and casing are mint. The unit has 9 knobs, all sculpted and with a touch that says the person or persons who made this cared.

Traded an EW refurb'd CA-2010 for the TAN-8550 and matching TAE-8450 preamp. Based on retail, about $600, I guess. But, then am putting in the funds needed to redo with EW. It is rated at the same 100wpc that the B-2 is. Runs considerably hotter than does the B-2. Those extra 15 pounds in the B-2 are about half heat-sink and half power supply (B-2 is a true duo-mono with two transformers, four filter caps, etc., while Sony never made anything that was, to my knowledge). With the TA-N7B: Completely isolated dual mono amplifiers, four transformers, even the grounds don´t have a (strong, several kOhms) connection ! You could saw it into two halfs with a straight cut and you´d get two working monoblocks

Welcome to the TAN-8550 club ! What you wrote about the deep soundstage is a thing, which I also noticed on my TA-8650 and TAN-8550. Extremely impressive for an amplifier of that age. I think that´s one of the two most important features, which SONY´s V-FETs (also the smaller models, to a lesser degree) have. The second one is the V-FET typical emphatetic colouration of sound.

This is my Sony STR-V6 that Terry DeWick aligned and recapped the driver boards. I just amazed at how good this receiver sounds now.

Thanks Axel! I really love the way it looks and sounds. As good as this receiver sounds I'm curious if the V7 might sound a little better.

Perhaps at louder listening levels on inefficient speakers. But, my guess is that you would be very hard-pressed to hear any difference.

That is a great looking receiver. Absolutely one the best. :thmbsp:

BTW - Did Terry send you my service manual by mistake?

Sorry, no. Other than the receiver, Terry included the specs after the driver boards recap and alignment. Nothing else.

cool name: volvo 242 GT, even here in sweden nearly nobody have ever heard of that car they are very rare here to, i know a man who own one in new cond tuned with volvo R-sport equipment that give the engine 200 hp...and i bought a sony receiver last week: str 6050 in gothenburg, with 1 year warranty!! and it plays so sweeet!! soft and powerfull. works good with modern denon cd and monitor audio B2 wired up with transparent audio cables. did throw my rotel combo in the closet!

Sony STR-V5!

Here is my recent Sony STR-V5 atop my rack of other gear. I am really
impressed with this receiver. As much as I love my Yamaha CR1020, this
Sony gives it a run. I'm not sure it's better in any way but it sure does kick.
Love to hear the big brother V7. I also picked up a Sony TA-2650 amplifier that I'm not wild about. It sounds kind of constricted. I'm sure it needs some adjustment though. Haven't had time to work on it yet. Cheers, Jon

Thought I would post a few pics of the little brother to the awesome GX10. I really like the amp on this thing, very solid sounding and totally different than the very nice sounding Pioneer SA-9100 which I also own. Both are very different yet both wonderful sounding amps.

my Sonys.

just got the STR-6065 from Derek. its in very nice shape. but stereo light is out and bulb is good. cant see connections but feels attached.

the X60 is away for spare.

wood case to 6065 is very nice.
