Sony TTS-8000

Just got back from my son Simons house in Suffolk and as promised took my old and now his TTS-8000 to pieces to find the serial number as requested. Took all the allen bolts out with a great deal of effort due to the weight of the plinth only to find I only had to remove the platter to find the serial number - DOH!!!!!! you live and learn!

Thanks fitzy !

As recently updated on TVK's TTS-8000 page, it seems about 70 of those were imported to the UK, all with the same base you have, with most ending up at the BBC. Surprising indeed but I'm willing to believe it, given the quality of this drive.
Anyway, those 70 units probably are the only 220/240V TTS-8000s around - lucky you!

Hello to all,

Xart

Absolutely beautiful Xart ! (Ce sont des merveilles !).

I wonder where you find your gear ? Locally or online ? Because all of these components you have are not exactly abundant...

Beautiful gear. That TE-901 is stunning. Is that wood from the factory?

I really prefer the RCAs on the back rather than on the top (TA-E86B/99B/900). Is a real pain to support the ICs between these and various inputs/outputs.

Good luck on the PS-X9. The two that showed up this year in the U.S. went for crazy dollars. But, definitely one of the pinnacle pieces for Sony.

I can hear the Sony,s calling me. They do look like Very well built pieces. Don,t think I will find much locally.

Hello to all,

Yes Yamaha B-2 , is't Esprit Sony origin these boxes out of wooden were an option, But Axel has others informations ?

These photographs of TA-E901 with Woodpack come from the collection private from my French Friend who live in Japan and set on Sony Esprit it has a pair of APM 6 and 8, more of the things unknown in Europe.

Is't by him that I found my TA-N 902 and TA-E900.

Yep ist difficult to find a PS-X9, but I don't desperate.

Friendly

Xart

The TAC-90, 91 and 92 were expressly designed for the 900 series but available for those in the secret of the Gods because they weren't advertised for. At all. Anywhere. Not even in Sony's own corporate mags. Nowehere.
I believe a US shop has (had?) a little NIB stock of them available but at prices ridiculous.

I for one think the 901s really take shape when in their TACs - but that probably is my old-fashioned ascendent talking.

Why am I not notified about all these nice new posts, my last E-Mail notification is from 12.07.2007 !!!???

Xart, what a great ESPRIT collection, bravo !

I hope that after all these troubles with getting and (finally) not getting two TA-E900's in series, my prayers to the ESPRIT gods will be finally answered.
And I had both units (already) in my listening room ... Grrrr

IMHO such great units shouldn´t be hidden inside these wood cases, for me that looks a little bit like "Space Age meets Gelsenkirchener Barock" (not easy to translate) :D Axel, isn´t it ?!

Recent SONY arrivals: ST-5000F, TA-8650, studio versions of the Wega V4810 V-Fet amplifier and T4710 tuner with rack ears and handles.

Hey Mirko, you should stop by more often ! Good luck on finally getting your long overdue TA-E900 :D Some day I will also own one...

How did the testing with y.e's pre go ?

How's the TA-8650?

And umm, pictures dude !

Usually I like it clean, but fore ones I like the wood housing, the 901 looks great. A really nice design, only thing I am not that crazy about is the vents on top (they look a bit like a Belgium waffle iron).

Hmm... Just an idea... how hot does it get? :)

Axel,

I know you like it like that, but here I definitely do not agree with you :D

Please take a look on my new TA-8650, IMO it´s a much better example of integration of wood into Hifi gear.

Looks like a minter Mirko !

Does it sing as sweetly as it looks ?

Btw did you see the TA-E900 that went on ebay yesterday for 705 euro ?

Or did you grab that one also :D

I have to admit, that the last weekend was one of the most expensive weekends for me, but also the most amazing, regarding my Hifi/SONY hobby.

Yes, I got that TA-E900  and it looks very nice, but let´s see, how the real unit looks like. I also got that defective SE-P900 !

Even more positive was the first audition of the new TA-8650, it simply sounds super impressive ! The potentiometers and the switches are perfect, no problems at all !
At first glance the TA-8650 might look mint, but inside there is a lot of sands, dust and rust and some signs of water, which entered the unit many years ago. For some unknown reason the pre amplifier section is completely clean. In order to get the perfect TA-8650, I will combine the mint chassis and power amplifier section of my first TA-8650 with the mint front panel, preamplifier section and top panel of the new one, together with the already refurbished wood panels (Which are already installed on the picture).

The second surprise was the first test of my new ST-5000FW. That tuner is really the kind of sleeper, we all dream about. Solid tuning performance on par with some of the best tuners and a super sweet sound:music:, which let´s me forget even the Lab Zero. Remeber, this unit was introdced in 1968 !!!

I started to hear Tschaikowski´s "Jewgenj Onegin" live transmission from the Salzburg Festival yesterday evening as a "benchmark" and I could not stop until the transmission ended at about mid night ... a unique experience, thanks to the ST-5000FW hooked up to the TA-8650 ...

Here are some pics:

Very nice! Ah, yes. Another AK member learns the 'truth' of just how good FM received on an ST-5000FW can be. A wonderful piece of gear.

Wow Mirko, you simply got all the goodies didn't you ? I was gonna put myself in debt to get that Esprit pre, but then some dude jacked up the price, hehe.
Figured it might be you ;) Same for the equaliser...

The ST-5000FW simply looks stunning, to match its stunning sonics...

Think I'll have to win the lottery to get all the things that you have, and that I want... it's getting to be an impressive collection man ! :)

There are only two things I would change on my ST-5000F. First, the tuning indicator should be lit with its own bulb as in later receivers. Second, the plastic knob on the on/off switch doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the styling.

Sound and reception - can't improve on it!
