Show Us Your Utahs!

Well.. it did until my wife emptied.. It had probably 30 years of fine shavings in it that really helped a lot too..

model V8JC-93

these look very much like the PA speakers i have shown above, but the surrounds are black instead of orange, and they have been fitted with tweeters. the crossover is an 8mF cap. numbers are 328138-1. numbers on the back of the cones are 105536-3.

these came out of a pair of soundcraftsmen lancer's. they were the only drivers in the cabinets, which were medium sized bookshelf speakers. i considered taking the cabinets also, but shipping costs from oregon would have been pretty steep.

Then they go on top of the ever growing "pile" :D

see if there are any numbers on the backs of them. i'm watching a pair on that auction site that have heppner codes on them, and a pair i already have look just like some made by foster for radio shack. i'm trying to figure out if utah bought these from foster.

328 is the code for utah, so i would assume that utah manufactured yours. from the front, your tweeters look just like these fosters. the backs look different, but the fosters have a plastic covering over the magnet. the pair i'm watching on that auction site look the same in front, but have heppner codes on the back.

I have been looking for some Utah's for a long time. Last night I walked into Good Will and spotted some Utah Heritage HS1-C's. Nice condition and I was in awe of the size of those cabinets (latter I realized they are very similar in size to my HPM-100's). Unfortunately one of the woofers is not working, when I removed it and tested it no sound comes out at all. Listening to the other one was interesting though. These things are LOUD but I was a little surprised that they did not have more bass. I think they are keepers just because of the historical value and they look so good!

Celesta's AKA model C12pc-3b picked up today along with a nice receiver.

That is a very nice receiver. The HK 330c has quite an enthusiastic following on AK, including myself! How do the speakers sound?

The receiver is an HK 330c look alike from DHC electronics, model 220. I like the way the speakers sound. I listen to classical and "smooth" jaz with them....I don't beleive they are suited for rock music IMHO.

Well I'll be hornswaggled! That DHC 220 is the spittin' image of an HK 330c. I have a pair of coaxial Utahs that I will use for easy listening/acoustic at some point. I am currently refinishing the cabinets. I have to sort out an L-Pad and capacitor to get a better sound out of the drivers.

Best of luck with yours!

I was looking at that picture of the DHC, and just realized I've got those speakers upside down. :D

I used to own a pair of Utah 6 x 9s that I had installed in the rear deck of a 69 Chevelle. The frames were painted orange and they had 16 oz magnets. They rocked!

here's another pair of 12" woofers. these came from an unknown pair of Knight speakers. they were partnered with mid horns and bullet tweeters. these woofers have a huge ceramic magnet under the cover. they are very heavy. i'd guess the voice coils are two inches. numbers on the cones are 106313-1. the eic code is 328745.
