Shure V15 RS questions

Ya lost me on the mounting clip. I thought those V15 had the same style bodies as the m97 and others from that series such as the VSTIII. Stylus I'd say your best bet would be Jico.

No camera this weekend, unfortunately. It's just the bare metal body ( + stylus w/swing down brush), but no way to mount it.

I think the mounting block must have come unglued, Rob. Those are supposed to be 1/2" standard mount carts with a gray plastic mounting block glued to the top of the body. My V-15 RS came apart like that and I had to glue it back together a few years ago, and since then it happened to another RS cartridge I have from the same era. Do you see a brownish residue on the top of it?

Nope - it's clean as a whistle. I was hoping that there was some kind of snap-in piece. Hmm. Wonder if it would be worth the effort to try to make something. I'm guessing no.

Wait - looking at it again under the magnifiers there is a bit of schmutz.

If you have a current line of Shure cartridge with a 1/2" mounting block sitting unused somewhere the body should have the same dimensions. The mounting block is just glued to the cartridge body and it can be popped off and re-glued to yours. Somewhere somebody probably has a headshell with a gray plastic mounting block screwed into it wondering WTF? :D

I reckon you could glue something else to the top, with a couple of holes half an inch apart, and it should be able to be used - they were pretty good, so it would be worth the effort.

While I don’t own a V15 RS, other people seem to think the styli for the M97xE, the V15VxMR (stylus VNVxMR) or the M95HE will fit the V15 RS. There are numerous places which have those styli, but very few of them seem to show the V15 RS stylus, or cross reference it with any other styli. Shure’s discontinued styli list shows the standard V15 Type V stylus (VN5MR) as fitting, but that is wrong, because the shaft is too thin for the V15 RS – it will fit, but will be insecure. Hakaplan gives a few options for buying the V15 RS stylus here http://audiokarma.net/forums/showthread.php?t=209801&page=3 .
