Silver Faced Equalizers

Wanted to add an EQ to my Yamaha CA-2010/CT-1010 combo. I have a couple of EQ's but they are black faced. Other then the Pioneer SG-9, SG-9500 and SG-9800's anyone else know of any decent ones I should start tracking?

Harmon Kardon EQ7 & EQ8 for two. Be warned that HKs tend to look a 'little out of place' next to anything but other HK equipment. Also Soundcraftsmen 2012 (I think) which is gold-faced.

Sansui made some silver SE-9's (I know where one is). JVC SEA-series (SEA-70 etc) ....

ADC Soundshaper 10 and 20 are silver faced. Have red leds on the sliders and rack handles. I am using the Soundshaper 20 with my setup.

Soundcraftsmen SE450 is silver faced w/black enclosure. You should have no problem locating a unit w/a silver faceplate

I have a Realistic 12 band EQ that is silver faced. Works and sounds great with no noise added in.

I'd second the Soundcraftsmen recommendation. Excellent build quality, low noise EQs with a vintage look to them.

A few weeks back I also saw a large (perhaps 20 sliders per side) JVC EQ with silver face that looked very nice. Didn't hear it, though, and don't remember the number. [Sometimes wish I had bought it, just for the looks, but I have no use for another EQ and have been trying to cut back on purchases, so I passed on it.]

ADC (Audio Dynamics) made several silver-faced eq's, and there's usually several on ebay at any one time. No experience with them, though.

I have an ADC Sound Shaper 10...very nice EQ, simple and clean sound....

I have a Sansui SE-9... not as clean looking as the SS-10 but it does have an adjustable output gain, nice display, and if you get one that is in full working condition you will have the cool "auto moving" sliders and pink noise generator.... mine has a busted x axis motor which renders my "auto" features useless, the EQ is fine though

I am also waiting on a seller for a Realistic 31-8000 EQ, it's been over a month of super slow emails back and forth but I hope to add it to my collection... Nice clean look, adjustable output, and pink noise generator...

I've run silver BSR and ADC units.

I hardly used them, but both seemed decent enough.

both have red LED illuminated sliders.

I have used the same Technics SH 8020 since 1984. Still works great.

I think equalizers when used "correctly" can help with difficult rooms and speaker placement. Also, I just like them, even if I am not using them in the signal path. I currently use an Audiocontrol Richter Scale III and pass lows to an Adcom GFA-5800 and highs to a Yamaha M-45 (90Hz crossover). I am going to rearrange the stereo's (currently one in my family room, one in my living room and one in the basement) and want to add one to compliment the CA-2010 and CT-1010 I am bring out to the family room. I appreciate all the responses, especially ones with pics

I think I am leaning towards Soundcraftsmen right now and since the rack which houses the gear is black and I will still be using the Audiocontrol EQ, I might get am EQ which mixes both silver and black

I like the Soundcraftsmen AE2420-R that is currently on the Bay but I am leery of purchasing offshore, even though it is still considered the US.

We shall see.

Early/mid 80's Teac made a small (about 2" tall) eq: EQA-10 in silver & black. Lighted sliders & led spectrum analyzer, thin & tall buttons. It was no frills, but a straight forward 10 band. Made in silver or black. Technics also made some nice eq's. Many had flourescent spectrum analyzers, commonly found on ebay.

I will disagree with you on that statement... IMO equalizers are no gimmick.... especially ones with built in pink noise generators that can analyze a room and adjust for it....

Even without the PN generator..... you cannot adjust your BASS and TREBLE no where near as good using just one knob than using a 10-12 band EQ...
