Silver Faced Equalizers

I have that Teac in black as well... nice little EQ, no frills, but good quality...

Yup, very helpful indeed, most rooms are not designed for the "perfect sound", they can have weird acoustics depending on what's in the room and the size/shape of the room... since this makes up for probably 98% of the rooms we have sound gear in, having a good equalizer can't be beat....
 
Eq

Can heartily recommend a Soundcratsmen RP-2215.

Have had and used one for YEARS!

Often available on the famous auction site at a reasonable price.

Be sure to go for a coil-wound circuit EQ and not an OP-amp design.
Coil wound units have much less distortion. :yes:

I'm sure this comment will generate much discussion, but basic electronics and physics will agree.

Just my opinion. :D

Had my (black...sorry...) sound shaper 3 cleaned and taken care of professionally, but still the sound is a bit scratchy ON SOME CD's. Not all.

The guy at the store said it might be caused 'cause there is too much signal and the amp can't handle it - - - but as it is a rather good amp, I don't think that's the case.

I tend to cut rather than boost to smooth things when I do have an EQ in system. Boosting that low bass sucks watts like a Hoover.
 
I picked-up a Sansui SE-7. It has that nice silver aluminum face. 10 level sliders for each channel. For $5 at GW I figured I couldn't go wrong. It cleaned-up real nice at least a 9 out of 10.
 
So the more I thought about it, I just didn't see any silver faced ones that really grabbed me.:no:

So I started rethinking my plans and my layout. I am still going to have a black faced CDP (Onkyo changer) in the mix, along with my Yamaha M-45 and AudioControl Richter Scale III (kinda black) so figured what the heck, lets go for more black (prices were better too!).:yes:

Just got this one off that auction site!

Now I have to find me a microphone though.

Looks nice, but don't forget to use you're ears.

One mic that has gained some respect in the pro world due to its price is the Behringer ECM8000 (it is really cheep and does an ok job compared to the rest).

Analyze and then do the rest with you're ears :)

Behringer ECM8000

Thanks! I looked at this mic but it seems to have XLR connection not 1/4". There is the original microphone on the bay but priced too steep for me. Any thoughts/comments appreciated!

So I thought about this a little bit more. An XLR to 1/4' adaptor cable would be required along with Phantom power source, correct? I have a stand so that part is okay.

I've been using a BSR 10 band GE for years and it makes the system sound far better due to the room acoustics, which are hardwood floors, leather furniture and a sound absorbant ceiling. I am working on a Marantz 10 band GE right now, which really is just a clean up and polish project. It's gonna be interesting to compare with the BSR. They both have silver fronts but the Marantz tends to look slightly gold. Marantz made at least two of these type silver face graphic equalizers and they have appeared on Epay.

Sansui SE-7 are good EQ's. Came in silver and black. Pretty common on the 'bay
 
Looks interesting. Now to further cloud this up I was poking through some threads here and found that some of the EQ's (example being Audiocontrol) provide 6Volts through the 1/4" jack to the microphone. So at this point I am really not sure which way to go until I get a hold of Audiosource support and see what I can find out from them (maybe get the owners manual!:D).
