Sir.Byrd's Push-Pull 6V6GTA tube build

Maybe try rubber washers under the mounting ears or playing with the tightness of the screws holding the bells on. I've had noisy transformers shut up by tweaking those screws before, and not always by making them tighter.

I'll try this. I don't think the chassis contributes to the sound much, since it is so stiff, and I tried clamping down tight on the end bells, so it must be the windings.

Love that chassis & great looking too! Built like Fort Knox so it should be able dampen vibes with some tweaking you would think.

Wow, I feel really dumb. I just checked the output transformers I got, and I got 5k instead of 10.... I guess my 4 ohm taps are now 8 ohm taps.

Actually, I was just informed that would make the 4 ohm taps 2 ohm taps.
Ever had a tube amp that could power 2 ohm speakers?
:D

Byrd, it Would actually be the other way around there. :)
4ohm tap would be 8, 8ohm would be 16, an 16 would be 32.

Now if you had enough current to run 6L6's or EL34's then 5K
primary would do pretty well there and have the "normal" taps.

By the way beautiful construction, that is a great looking amp. :thmbsp:

Well, that's OK I guess.

I'm beginning to think that it is the bucking transformers that are buzzing. This is good news, those are easy to replace.

If the power transformer was buzzing, it would have been severely reduced by the amount of damping we put in there today.

With 6L6GC's you wont need the bucking transformers , Bucking transformers almost always buZZ , they have a near shorted load on them .
