SL1600mk2 Gear Repair

Hi all, I know this is an old thread but it seems to be the closest and most relevant to the issues I'm having with my Technics SL-1610 MK2 table. I've already changed the belt and small white gear but continue to have cueing problems with my TT. I've also checked to make sure the table was level and that the tracking force and anti-skating have been set correctly for my cartridge/stylus (~1.75g - Shure M97x).

If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated. I'm willing to take it in for repair if it gets to that point but generally like to try to fix things myself first and am not afraid to take it apart again if needed. I've uploaded videos of the issues:

-auto-start doesn't always drop the arm down at the start of the record
-cueing up (with the cue up button, or by lifting the cueing arm) both drag to the left a bit, scratching the record before lifting up and then swinging left towards the center
-when pressing the Stop button (or once record has ended and auto-return is triggered), the arm returns to the rest but then as the arm starts to lower, it comes back towards the platter and will eventually rubs up against the side of the platter if not caught in time.

You're going to have to study the service manual and the mechanism with the bottom off. It's impossible to troubleshoot it from these videos.
 
Any tips on what I should be looking for once it's open? If the start position was not set correctly, could it cause some/all of these issues?

My turntable had problems on returning the tonearm back to rest after playing the record.

I made three acts to solve this:

1. I replaced the drive belt (again. I already did this before, but it seems that the first belt I ordered was "OEM" in that sence that it was also aged and not flexible enough).
2. The small plastic gear had a crack. I replaced that, but that actually did not help my problem.
3. I had to tighten the nut on the top of the bigger gear. After tightening, the rubber roller below the smaller gear had more force (contact) to the black tonearm base and succeeded to return the tonearm.

Automatic works now but it still has a small issue with using tonearm manually. After lifting the tonearm up, it requires considerable force to move it over the tracks on record...
 
i think i have a similar issue with my beloved custom Technics SL-1600MK2. i still have to open it up and check the gears. Anybody in the San Francisco Bay Area, who's familiar with these beasts willing to check it out? I'll pay, obviously.

I went to hit start on my long standing Technics SL-1600MK2 turntable and the tonearm moved straight across the record and plopped itself down near the spindle.

I caught it quick enough. While holding the headshell lift, i hit "stop". It kept pushing back and clicking. Turned it OFF and it STILL clicked all the way back to the rest.

Tried it with the stylus protector down (Shure V15 MKIII) and a crappy record. It seemed to work again, but it would yelp out a click close to setting the tonearm down on the rest.

The auto lift rubber O ring is not even a year old. It was easy enough for me to install myself.

Something tells me either some electrical component bit the dust on the optical sensor circuitry or it has a cracked gear... or both?
