Snare drums!

Elvin Jones - possibly in the top 5 greatest drummers in Jazz. At the same time the most horribly recorded drummer in jazz, as if who give a $hit about the drummer, lets leave one mic and no worries about clipping.

Sad. Terrible.

They did the same thing to Tony Williams. And you can add him to your top 5 jazz drummers. Tony and Elvin...both heavy hitters. It made a difference.

Wow, yes Tony Williams too. It must have been a general disregard for good recording on drums in the jazz genre 50s and 60s. Good recording really began from the 70s.

I think the musicians were sharing their junk with the guys in the recording booth. I'm sure it all sounded marvelous in the heroin realm.

I was in a band with a guy who played a set of Bill Bruford Tama Star Somethingorother (in bubinga wood) drums that were actually ordered for and played by Bill at a local drum demo... he got them for a song, and with a cool little story to go with it. Needless to say, he doesn't sound like Bruford on the drums... More like Bonham pi$$ed up playing Bruford's kit. Nothing wrong with that tho :smoke:

One of the few good recordings of Elvin Jones. Explosive album!!! :ntwrthy::ntwrthy::ntwrthy:
