So That's A Decent Direct Drive Table? OK I Will Take It

That you can't hear above certain frequency has not stopped people from claiming that they hear or benefit from the frequencies above such though.
Every pitch that we hear is made up of a fundamental (say A-440hz) and series of harmonics that we hear as the "colour" of the sound. Those harmonics often continue on to frequencies beyond our hearing, but they can interact with and affect those we do hear.
 
Frequencies, the resultant harmonics and the interaction between is clearly a complex subject. Then add in that for the most part we listen to music and are ourselves part of the equation We will never be free from resonances, nor would we want to be. Finding a combination that keeps them all under control and reduces the unpleasant ones as much as possible is all we can do in the end.

My point was, I hope, that a lesser damped TT and arm are not better than an intrinsically more damped TT and arm. It´s all about preferences, it´s not so that a lesser damped TT and arm can objectively be better. Everyone is listening subjectively.

Exactly. I could not be in greater agreement with you. Then it goes on down the chain ending with the listening room and choice of seating. I have this wonderfully comfortable chair that makes the sound terrible. *sigh*
 
The summary pages on VE are inaccurate. From reading the manuals:

SP10 MKII: -70dB DIN 45539B (VE says -73dB)
SP10 MK2A: -86dB IEC98A
SP15: -78dB IEC98A
SP25: -78dB IEC98A

The MK2A is what Mr. Pig is buying, which has the same motor as the MKII. Compared apples to apples, the SP-10 MK2A measures a fair bit better. And, the W&F on the 2A is .02%, not that .005% difference is meaningful.

One correction on this, having given it further thought. The 2A spec is .02%, not 0.020%, so it was incorrect of me to state the 2A spec is .005% better. It's actually a less precise measurement - could be a bit better, or could be a bit worse.
 
Well I made payment on the SP 10 today, so in a bit it should be here. Really looking forward to seeing how it turns out. You know, now that I think about it, I am pretty sure that I have not heard a well set up SP 10. My experiences have been casual and a long time ago. So I am pretty hyped about this one. I have some cut unfinished birch ply that I could glue up for a utilitarian plinth. Pretty tempted to give that a try and perhaps move my 12" Woody arm over to it. Well we will see what time I can set aside when it gets here.

The pig is plotting devious plans.

The ball is rolling on a constrained layer damped plinth for the SP 10.

Initial plans are going to be a MDF core in the center, sandwiched by two sheets of acrylic, and then an outer layer or two of birch ply. This will all get wrapped in a very pretty tulip wood veneer. The SP 10 will get bolted directly into the MDF core, which is going to be used as a vibration sink. The next thing to check off the list is finding a set of attractive and effective set of isolation feet.

Now as far as the arm. Well there are complicated plans in the works even as we speak. So I cannot say for sure what is going to be the arm, but I have several leads and candidates out there, and within a couple of days I should be able to finalize the choice.

So now I have to get all my greenbacks in a row for this. Which means breaking out the super secret map to all the milk cans of silver dollars buried on the farm. Also increasing the acquisition rate of eggs from the chickens to sell on the rural black market. And I am going to be making the call to get a wrecker in here so I can sell the scrap metal on a dozen junk cars that I have tucked away in the cornfields.

The cow is already tipping on this deal, and hopefully within a couple of months I will have this table up and running in the system.

Just how many table and arm projects can one pig manage at a time? I am still waiting for the report on the turbo charged AR with the high mass arm.

So am I. It is in the hands of the plinth builder undergoing final assembly. It should be soon.

Sounds like an excellent plan for the plinth. I do hope your arm dreams come true....
