Some science to consider

Didn't read the entire thread, ok I read it but didn't pay attention so I'm unsure of the exact context of Watthours statement. But believe it or not it's true. Closer you get to the equator identical objects weigh less, very small difference, but true (which I assume is why Watt chose those 2 ethnicities).
I understand that you weigh less as you approach the equator- but it's not because of centrifugal force. Centrifugal force is something that has no basis in fact. It's a made-up force to explain this, among other, phenomena, but that force is exactly what I was taught in school. It "exists" to make Newtonian mechanics work in a rotating (non-inertial) frame of reference.

OK. I'm dropping the GR thing. Otherwise, next I'll have to introduce tensor algebra and four dimensional spacetime etc. etc. and that's definitely a bridge way, way, too far.
My apologies for taking this path. Please forget I wrote anything. I'd delete my past postings if I could.

If we're going to talk about "fictitious" forces and their ilk- then how about the Rindler Horizon and vacuum fluctuations ("Casimir effect"), or the Mach Principle/Hypothesis, as potential explanations for the existence of inertia. Best not to go there...

Centrifugal is what most are thinking of when they say centripetal ... ;)

I am sure it makes perfect sense to someone. I read some of it out loud to my wife because she is a word geek.

Yeah, I used to be a subscriber, but with the effective culmination of the DIY phono preamp that I was involved in I can't be bothered to keep it up.
I'll just let things ride...

Oft wondered why the atmosphere stays where it does. Gravity, I suppose.

Even as late as the 40's, with that first nuke they exploded...some thought that it might set the above on fire.

Q

Ha! Ha!
You know, seeing as it's Xmas and I'm in a socializing mood (the relatives will be converging en mass in a few days), and perhaps because I no longer have the threat of imminent death hanging over my head- any interest in getting together for a drink the next time I'm in the UK ? Where are you anyway?
Yeah, kinda like a blind date I know, but what the heck.
Sounds like a good idea. I've probably had worse looking blind dates. :D

If you owned a VHS or Beta in the super format they were still terrible compared to advanced Japanese produced CLV laser discs. But that said yes DVD's in the 480 i format were much better. I just mentioned the laster disc to show there were technologies that used both CLV and CAV.

I understand. This thread is full of "frequency hopping" and there are no rules (?).
