I think we have been waiting too long for a thread about this magnificently excellent turntable! A lot more people than I thought have them, so please post about it, the background of it and some pictures.

Mine I got on December 21, 2011 on vacation in Las Vegas. It was $200, in 9/10 condition except a few scratches on the plinth and the usual crummy tonearm. It also came with a pristine dustcover. Here is a picture of it playing the album Fleetwood Mac. Better pictures to come!

I own a 2251. I just tore it apart today actually.

I now have the main unit separated from the metal framing which in turn sits inside the plinth.

I desperately need information on how to go about building or buying a real plinth for this unit, one where the assembly is actually separate from the tonearm. Does anyone know *anything* about plinthing these units?

I also have the list of electrolytic caps that need replaced in these. I can post that tomorrow.

Hi, i have a TD125MKII (fully serviced by me) with SME 3 tonearm and in a SME 2000 Plinth. I'm eyeing the possibility to buy a PS-2250 in great shape. Would this be an upgrade from my Thorens, sonically wise? Has somebody owned both TTs?

Also, how good is that default stock tonearm on the PS-2250? The tonearm is the one that is shown on the top PS-2250 in these pics:

I'd assume "different" rather than clear superiority either, depending on cdx, set-up, arm & cart ect, ect. Overall there may be a personal pref for one over the other for some reason beyond sonics, such as a dislike of typical bouncy-bouncy belt drive suspensions.
 
It would be interesting to see the bottom of a 2250 and a 2251 with the plate removed for comparison.
Seems I read that moving the power supply out board was an improvement.
 
Helpful info for those rebuilding 2251. Capacitors. All electrolytic:

Cans - 4uf 250v, 16uf 50v.

Others - 10uf 350v, 470uf 25v, 470uf 16v, 47uf 16v, 33uf 16v (x3), 4.7uf 25v (x2), 4.7uf 10v, 1uf 50v, and 1.5uf 16v.
 
I have a 2251 moth balled away with a few other vintage tables, I'll have to check to see if I have any photos, if so I'll post. I thought the 2250/2251 had disappeared into the audio sunset but lately there seems to be some interest in the obscure vintage Japanese direct drives.
 
Just curious, where are the caps located in the TT? I have some slight speed fluctuation, already cleaned the main pot, just have to clean the bottom two.

No need to bump.

Basically inside the unit there is a power supply board and a capacitor board. Both of these are sheilded by metal boxes. Assume every one of these 40-year-old electrolytic capacitors are bad, and replace them all. I wouldn't think they'd cost more than $15 from Mouser.

I have one, running a Denon DA-305 arm and DL-110 cartridge.

I love it, simple, nice looking and great sounding.
No belts to slip, no springy suspension to go out of tune ...

I've always planned to replinth it but still haven't got around to it.
 
Very classic looking Table and well made, I especially like the separate drive models with their solid mount and option to change arms.

As I mentioned previously never run the motor less platter.

Thanks, yeah I had to cut another board from walnut as the original was cut for a different arm and unusable with the 237, very happy with the way it turned out.

Just need to find the original aluminum 45 adapter and its complete.
