Sony PSX 60: question about catridge/stylus

I suppose I assumed it was a V15III that came with your table and that you were expressing dissatisfaction with the combination. My bad if I was under a false impression.

No .... you are absolutely correct. I don't own a PS-X60. As I stated right off the bat ... I 'had' two PS-X60s. I've sold both.

With regards to the specifications I obviously don't have any use right now for a Sony PS-X60 manual but I certainly have done my share of purchasing, scanning and submitting user manuals, service manuals and resources I've come across to improve the knowledgebase available to us all.

In actual fact, the user manual for the PS-X60 posted up on vinylengine is one that I submitted.

I'd be a bit leery anyway of documentation for the PUA-7 as it applies to the PS-X60. In my mind we'd have to confirm a published spec for the PS-X60 tonearm itself.

I'm very interested to hear that you prefer a conical at high tracking weights, I had really started to believe they were going out of fashion. Does that mean that it would sound as good as a Elliptical, or just track better?
 
I have a PS-X60 with a Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III high output MC cartridge and it's a beautiful combination. I went with a high output in order to match up with my McIntosh C22 preamplifier rather than needing a step up transformer. It is rather delicate of course, so I exercise extreme caution when monkeying around with it.

Glad to hear about your set-up. I would love to do something really good, and maybe some time in the future, but I must admit to being scared of expensive and delicate! But I'm collecting everybodies experiences to use at the right time, so cheers!

Well yes but at the time I was thinking I wanted to go in a different direction ... manual ... and I've got a number of decks that fit that bill, like the Yamaha YP-D8. If it makes you feel better I do have a Sony PS-X4, a PS-X6 and a PS-X55.

Well ... the PS-X6 is a project .... the X4 is even more of a project (I'm probably looking at a full recap on that one). The PS-X55 has been giving me muting switch grief. If it isn't one thing .... !

I went through that muting switch business for a bit with my 55, too. It's been fine for quite some time now, knock on wood.

What's the deal with Sony tt owners? It's like you can't just have one, lol.
 
With mine it's like 60% of the time the switch needs to be pushed just another fraction of an inch to operate. I'm thinking I might just bypass it or see if I have another microswitch in my parts bin that I can graft in there.

I was thinking of figuring out how to bypass mine, but decided to do one more cleaning on it and it's worked ever since.
 
Anyone here tried an ADC cart on a PS-X60? Like maybe a QLM 34 MKIII? 0.3 x 0.7mil elliptical running at 1.5 to 3g?

I ran one with my X70 for a bit, and it performed fine.
Nothing high end, though. I think it was a QLM30 something or other, with a $30(?) generic replacement stylus.

My X70 came with a Shure V15iii. Never did give that combo a listen, though. The guy I bought it from had the VTF so high that the bottom of the cart body was dragging on the record being played. By the time I bought a replacement stylus for that cart(A Jico SAS), my X70 had some speed issues to sort out, and the V15/SAS went onto my AR.
A respected member who has a lot of experience with tables with the PUA-7 arm ran a V15iii, and was happy with it.

In a similar vein to ADC carts I'd be curious about those Empire x000 series carts that seem to be everywhere. I've had a few of them come around on tables and from parts bins over the years. Lots of stylus options, and guys like wualta are always ready to help sort them out.
I did run one on my X40 with the $45-ish lpgear replacement stylus for a bit, but wasn't all that impressed. Not sure how much can be gained from that test with the under-hung, "wannabe PUA-7" arm on the X40, though. Probably not much.

Hi onwardjames, just saw your post hiding in there among the others.
I have been working on my M91ED, making adjustments and I think it may be about as good as it gets. Its still pretty new, so possibly with a bit more time.
Ultimately the feedback that I'm getting from everyone that knows is that it needs more tracing weight. So I'm looking at other options. The Demon DL103 seems a good one, at Amazon for CAD 191.00.
How do you like your Grado black?
