Heh, I listened to Vin Scully calling the Dodger games on am from a small magnevox pocket portable radio for years. My regular flat screen TV speakers easily satisfy my needs. (Humor)

What is it about traction control going overboard? First thing I do in one of our cars is disable it everytime I go for a "drive". First corner it'll cut the power and flash its light. All without the least bit of lost traction. It must be the g-sensor deciding spirited driving is banned or something.

Probably depends on the car. My last BMW (3.5l V8, manual transmission) could be driven like a demon without traction control cutting in. For that, you had to be on snow, gravel or a diesel slick. It worked like it should.

I imagine the same on a Camry or whatever will be intended to prevent "driven like a demon" to start with.

Fair enough. I think I need a better "driving" modern car. My benchmark from the distant past was an old-skool 5.0L V8 rear wheel drive Aussie car with no safety crap except seat belts. Straight line she hit 230km/hr before I ran out of road...and guts. Not so much fun around corners.

My current car is a 2007 Japanese 4x4 with only two airbags, ABS and not much else- I love it.

My partner's turbo diesel 4x4 SUV has everything that opens and shuts, too many safety features, bings and bongs, flashing lights and is absolutely zero fun to throw around on a mountain road. You can't even leave the sunroof open without it going off its tits.

Still runs every night on command. With DVI it pulls in a decent 1080pi from a Yamaha A/V. Guess the behemoth will go with the house when/if I sell the house.

The comments I get on the 51" are unreal...but the sound was not bad, but eventually went the 5.1 route with Polks.

No it’s not surround sound by any means but you could often add rear speakers .or sometimes more stuff.
Are gimmicky 4k TVs that good? My Sony non hdr is not better then my dad old old Samsung 1080p 3d flagship tv I forgot it’s model # was near 4k ish in price .
I understand thin TVs are lighter yes .

The speakers were better on older TVs, but everything else about them -- and I mean everything, picture quality, weight, resolution, clarity, colour depth, size, cost, power consumption -- was worse compared to modern TVs. The same goes for projectors.

Yes but if you have non he sources like dvd , old game consoles and stuff it will look better on the old style TVs . So old TVs are not worthless completely, say for ps1, ps2 and older game consoles .

Widescreen Dilemma——
I get so angry when I watch a movie and it has bars , so I buy a widescreen tv and movie companies are too lazy to make it fit my screen ?
Ultra wide screen should be a theater only format it ruins the screen size of my 55” making it smaller and bars are something video fans should hate .
I’ll take a flat screen over a big projection tv also since I use my 7.2 ch surround instead .

Makes movies 16:9 for theaters problems solved . Film them in this ratio oh wait Hollywood doesn’t not Care about Blu-ray and movie consumers.

Soundbars are a smart idea but the woofers are too small and subwoofers puny . Good budget systems yes .
It’s essentially a mini line arrayed center channel paraded and sold as a 5.1 when it’s clearly not .
Anyone have pics of there sound-bars or positive reviews they want to add ?
:small size must make them easy to set up very few wires too.

Film formats are all over the place. Literally. You'll never find a single format to match all films. Especially once you get to old films, all those cinemascope films are going to mess with your brain.

Depends on the projector, but they're generally relatively expensive. Go Google.

Pay $10-50 for a Blu-ray just for It not to fit the tv screen correctly .

It's easily solved: Big(ger) TV; dark room. You won't even see the bars and the experience will be more cinema-like.

is replacing bulbs real expensive?

Yes, in my situation ~$ 500.00 projector lamp cost, in my case, for my Sony theater grade true 4K projector, and at a 120" diagonal screen, in the darkened living room.
And if I feel the movie`s image is undesirably cropped, well then, there is the zoom/angle adjust control on the projector`s remote to completely fill the screen, usually on older movies without any weird image aspect ratio distortion..

When not using the projector, the usual 2009~ 2017 Flat screen TV`s that I watch have very effective (minimal image aspect distortion) when I select their display ratio to expand 4.3 to 16:9, if I so chose.

But there is a trade off, by exposing the limits of the original film/video resolution(grain), and deciding if the original 4:3 cropped is a better looking image versus expanded 16:9 full frame..

But that`s my individual in house BR/DVD media viewing decisions, and YMMD with what you watch and what your expectation`s are.
I`m happy with the results/choices of my display system/s, and adjust/alter/experiment them per engagement, if desired.
