Soundbars good or bad for audio world ?

Focus on getting a job. Not on what you want to buy after you get a job.
Easier said then done , I am too sick today I can barely stay awake . Yesterday I tried to go to sleep early and just to fail .

Applying for a job is a pain , it almost feels like it’s hopeless as I can only do a Desk job .:(
Great Depression of 1939 looks like a cake walk compared to finding a job today .
Lucky depression era people’s :D

Sounds like excuses
Not so easy , to find a desk job . Maybe your right maybe I should focus more on my applications.
Back to the real subject ?? Sound-bars are the death of audio ? Or bring more people into the hobby ? I’d say a little of both .

I think satellite speakers were a good idea but a terrible failure as far as sound quality .
Htib was terrible, soundbars are better then them.
Do some sound-bars used higher end drivers ?

Soundbars bring decent (better than nothing) sound to the masses who don't really care about more than bringing acceptable sound to a small space.

They aren't intended for audiophiles, just like Honda Civics were never intended for muscle car fanatics.

But audiophiles are known to use them. I used one placed behind the TV and tilted pointing up at the wall behind the TV. It sounded pretty nice; made a big mono cloud. I listened to music through it once in awhile.

The Great Depression started @ around 1929 and ended @ about 1939. Not that there weren't still lots o' depressed folks hangin' about in 1939.

Sorry if this question is off topic. You've been complaining about not finding a job for a while. This begs the question, what kind of education/training have you had and what can you actually do?:dunno:

Yep, only for flat screen TV...

Makes better sense to pick up a recently outdated AVR and two pair of whatever speakers sitting around a thrift store.

I have heard a few sound bars, at stores and at some of my friends houses. They do tend to add some bass to TV sound, and somewhat better quality and louder sound overall. It would be an excellent product for adding dramatic sound to a boardroom TV, or perhaps watching movies in one of those 400 square foot big city ultra modern apartments with floor to ceiling glass walls and no space for anything.

The main reason I wouldn't buy one, is the nice looking slick ones have built in amplification.. and I can't possibly be happy with a speaker system I can't connect to 100lbs of tube amps. There are passive ones, but they are very clunky looking.

I guess I'm just not in the target demographic, which is totally fine - I also don't own an HTIB, or an executive mini system, or an iPod dock, or even a bookshelf system. Heck I don't even use a receiver. I don't believe that a person needs expensive equipment to enjoy music or movies, and I'm sure a soundbar would suffice for someone who isn't very fussy - but being satisfied with a sound bar would defeat the whole point of having a hobby, so I'm out.

^^^ this

And what are you doing about it?
Not enough , I have computer experience that’s about it . Hard to find a desk job with specific experience, have almost a 2 year degree but quit going my car is not working well enough . Parents give me no money for gas or I’d go over there , I feel super sick and my won’t wont shut up about me having to do chores .

I’m in middle of organizing the basement and my mom won’t shut up about it . I felt to sick to finish it lookin like a mess .

I. Just. Can't. Right. Now. :rflmao:

Since soundbars are not really for the audio world , the question is moot .

Winner winner, TV Dinner!

Exactly so - Sound bars are for cheesey Home TV systems, certainly not Home "theatres,"
and definitely not in the realm of Audio as we AK folks think of it.
A quick and dirty device if you don't have time or space to go further into quality sound.

Get out of BED, log off the internet, go Out of the Door, and get your butt in GEAR, young sir.
Whining will not get you anywhere.

I'd kind of like one that can be powered, or passive. So you can use it as a soundbar, or a center channel.

That'd not be too difficult, actually.

Stupid worthless chores are more important to her , I could apply for jobs if I was just sitting around.

I’d say everything you can apply at that I’m capable of doing is apply online only. My knees are decimated I cannot stand for hours .
Possibly a hour or two at max.
Maybe I need to try harder to find entry level desk jobs.

Sound-bars are very expensive micro speakers and a mini line array or something?
Hey “ I’ll sell you these tiny speakers “
Consumer ! Yes finally a bar to put under my tv.. no need to learn anything to hook up speakers .
