Soundcraftsmen EQ slider replacement

After removing, disassembling, cleaning, lubing, reassembly, and soldering thousands of Soundcraftsmen sliders; I thought it would be nice to install some new ones. For the right price, it may balance out by saving all those hours on labor. There are currently no adapter boards for this purpose. There are people making them for the CTS sliders used, just not this application. The main reason I think is do to the mounting tabs and hole interference. In the graphic, the new Bourns slider is on the left, and the original slider to the right of it. And on the right is a pair laid on top of each other. As can be seen, the mounting holes are on signal holes and vice-versa.

I plan to design new slider PCBs to replace the originals that the sliders mount to. It would only need to be spaced 6mm forward to keep slider position relative. But also means the bracket that attaches the signal board to the rear of it, has to be spaced 6mm backward. It wouldn't be much to drill the rivets out and use the brackets with spacers. I also might have some brackets made if I sell them as kits. It will make it an easy install. Watch the thread for future updates. I should be adding photos and design graphics soon.

The DX4200 actually has standoffs spot welded to the face-plate. So, the only two options are to let the PCB slide over them, or shorten them. It actually looks like they could be cut off with a small tubing cutter, so the threads shouldn't get messed up too bad. Otherwise it would need an 'S' bracket mounted to the PCB if they went through the board. Cutting them seems easier to me, but selling them in kits may be easier to mount to the stock height. What do you guys think? Here is the PCB layout so far. Close to getting some made. The signal board will not need to be spaced as thought in the last post. It's fine if it moves forward 6mm. The copper fill on both sides of the PCB is a ground plane. Should help with shielding.

I'm interested, but I have two PE2217-Rs and a SP4002. Will you be doing anything for those units?
 
It will be so welcomed. Those original cts sliders are the worst sticky mess I have ever seen.
I have 3 sp4002's and an ae2000 all have the slides fully rebuilt except the ae2000 and I'm still going the grab 3 or 4 or them.
Soundcraftmen is some of my best sounding gear but those slides.
When I get your new ones I'm going to put these in my driveway and run them over with my truck. They make me hostile. Jk

That's great. I have the DX4200 boards ordered. I'll see how they work and go from there.
 
Should I knock on wood?
I've never seen the sticky slider issue on the Pro-EQ 44. Did Soundcraftsmen make some substantial changes in their composition—just before they closed down?
Fingers crossed.
I do have plenty of PE22217, and the later DX series with the issue, so I know the problem.

They finally changed the sliders for that series. They do get dry, but nothing like the horrible feel of the older ones.

They've always had a very silky-smooth motion compared to all my other SC EQs. So I stocked up on two of them. Wonderful unit. SC really got their stuff together just before the end.
 
Here are the boards from the AE2000. It takes two, and one will be flipped since they are mirror imaged.
