Seen any Dahlquist DQ10's sitting on the floor? I've always seen them with stands...and I'm sure they wouldn't have been called "bookshelf" speakers. I like mine a little elevated to get the tweeters more at ear level.

IIRC DQ-10's came with stands. Admittedly they aren't tall enough. But, they were included. Of course the stands that came with ESL 57's are also too short as many owners will attest.
IMO anyone who doesn't realize DQ-10's need to be on stands should be kept away from sharp objects.
If a speaker comes with or needs stands for optimum operation it's not a floor stander.

Call me a "cheep bastrich", but a pair of these crates (18 X 12 X 9 holding Infinity RSb) will easily support 225lbs, only cost me $9.49 ea. at Walmart.

My Yamaha 690ii's are true floor standing speakers and i think they sound best about 12-18 inches off the floor. Call me crazy. I think i keep them there.

Really, 225lbs? I go about 260 at least and i think if i sat on those crates i would turn them into toothpics

There are plenty of mighty fine speaker stands options available. What do you want? You can go so far as to get a solid gold flamingo sculpture speaker stand if that's what you're into.
Just so you know, they don't sell the gold flamingos at BestBuy.

There's definitely stuff that can be adapted to the purpose. But I wouldn't mind some more purpose built options (especially ones utilizing wood and/or a nice polished metal) that look good are fairly bottom heavy and are designed to secure the speaker.
Several decades ago, I bought a pair of Polk 10 speakers. Couldn’t see spending the extra $ for their recommended stands that tilted them upwards slightly.
From their sales brochure photo, I took the angle with a protractor. A carpenter buddy with a planer and some scrap 2 X 6s (or maybe 8s) shaped them down; some good 5/8” plywood, lag bolts and stain.....Presto! Two more-rugged stands at a fraction of Polk’s price. Still have ‘em — the Model 10s, too, but now regret trading a mint set of JBL Decade L-26’s for them; think the dealer gave me 200 bucks for the JBLs!!

The stand\s i have now are holding up (no pun intended) but i think i will talk to a few friends and see if custom stands are an option. Not in much of a hurry. I'm not very handy like that but i have some friends who are. Lots of other good options on this thread. Thank you to those who offered up a constitutive opinion. Much appreciated.

Thanks - that was my inspiration. Much easier in the pocket though (spray paint abs a bit of MacGyvering. My wife (God bless her) even liked it! From some reason she cannot understand why 18 speakers around the house are a basic necessity. But those stands got her to at least accept those speakers. In addition I added ABBA to the “reveal” to build positivity...
I'm late to this thread, but since it has been resurrected...
I gave these to my son for his Large Advents. A clone of these could be made taller and sturdier with little work.
I use my subs as stands for my EPI 180 pair. I use felt pads between them. The Advents on top are just being stored there temporarily, waiting for a recap.
