Speakers you will NEVER sell.

Just stumbled onto this 16-year thread as I was looking at others that had info on My Speakers That I Will Never Sell...The Mirage M3si Towers! In 1992, I bought a pair of new M5si Mirage speakers, and I really loved them. I also bought great speaker cables, Tributary, 18 feet of them at ten dollars a foot, a really good move the salesman talked me into. So, I liked the M5si's so much, and because the audio store gave me a half year, full credit exchange period to trade up, that I did to the M3si pair! Of course I did! Plus, they were marked down $400.00 to $2600.00. My then Yamaha a-1020 integrated amp had enough power for the M5si, but the M3si needed more! So later in '92, I went to a different audio dealer, and purchased an Adcom GFA 555 II Amp and Adcom GFP 565 Preamp. What a difference! Truly then, the Mirage M3si's were able to put out an incredible wall of great sound with the additional power. For 31 years, I haven't had even one tiny issue with either the amp, preamp, or the Towers, just the best sound ever. Over the years, I've tweeked the positioning of the Towers in my fairly large mancave, as I learned how to make them sound even better. And just the other day, I upgraded to a great brand new Rotel cd player. The Wall Of Sound just grew even more.

I've scanned thru some of these 32 pages of threads, and have seen that there's more than a few AKers that agree with me about Mirage. For what was, and of course still is very reasonable money, the Mirage M3si speakers were, and are a tremendous value. One would have to fork out Much More Money today to equal or better them. There's a point for all of us to appreciate what we've been able to aquire, and just be happy and thankful with that, right? Would I wish to spend 5x or 10x more money to get a 5 or 10 percent better sound? I'm real good with what I have now. I'll never buy any other pair of speakers for my #1 system, they're with me forever.

I agree with you on the Mirage. I bought a set of 360s from a gentleman on C.L. Refoamed them and now they're tied with my Pinnacle PN8+ for runners up to my 1982 Dali. The Mirage image better but the Pinnacle have the best low end I've ever heard from a speaker their size. If I could combine the characteristics of both....

My DIY speakers that I made about 15 years ago. I have often thought about making new cabinets for them as I feel that I could do a better job of them now with better tools, materials and experience but if I do that I may as well make a completely new set and take it to another level. Well they are used every day and for me the sound is more than acceptable, never felt the need for a sub as they give plenty of base. And they are made out of solid oak, may or may not be the best idea for speakers but I just like real wood.

Never would get rid of them, but then I have never sold anything. However I have given a lot of stuff away over the years and made some people very happy, priceless.....

Ohm Walsh2s, the ex got them in the divorce, ruined them then put them in storage. Oldest boy took them from her under protest, and the rest is documented here.

Can't sell them if I haven't bought them yet. No speaker is perfect. It takes me about two years of experimenting before I decide to keep or sell. One pair with complementary speakers have become my HT system and they are 54 years old. The other pair I waited 10 years for to get down to the right price. I have had them 2 years And I have finally got them figured out so I'll keep them for a while longer. I know they won't be with me 50 years. I'd be 127.

The speakers I will never get rid of are my DIY speakers I re-designed from a pair of Realistic Nova 8’s my father bought me in 1975. I replaced all the drivers with top of the line Philips Professionals back in the early 80s, with the intention of redoing the crossover. Fast forward to 2019 and after retiring, I finally redesigned the crossover (with some good advice from AllenB and using XSIM), refinished the cabs, and added walnut veneer to the front. They rival or best my other speakers. They’re keepers for sure.

Those really look great!

I have a pair of Altec Model 19 that I got in 2005. If you asked me even a year ago, I would have said they were forever speakers. I'm thinking of moving them on now.
Times change.

Same here, my Altec Valencias were with me for 45 years and were used every day. I decided to move them on because I have other, smaller speakers that are close in clarity if not in size. I do miss how effortlessly they did what they do.

What you keep is often a matter of practicality. When I had a (much) larger house, with a 5400 cubic foot listening room, a pair of VMPS Super Tower speakers delivered the sound, in abundance. At 5 feet tall, and 225 lbs., they presented an imposing figure, and would easily overdrive a smaller room.
One of my favorite tracks to demo their capabilities was Emerson, Lake, and Palmer`s "Lucky Man". At volume, the low register notes caused jaws to drop with regularity.
I miss those speakers. If possible, hold on to your favorites.

I have lost count on my speakers ..somewhere around 70 pairs at the moment.... I love my Dynaco A25's, Cambridge Audio R50's, Tangent R5 Applewood, Pioneer HPM 100's, Bose 901's Sansui SP 2500 ,...4x.JBL L36, 4x Celestion Ditton 25's , Celestion 15XL, Wharfedale W3's
...
