Our value village only ever has 5 disc CD players and beaten up VCR's, all at high prices and "no return".........never seen anything audio worth a second look.........oh maybe an orphaned Realistic MC 500, but that was it........

Yikes, that is a bunch. Pretty sure that is the 1st generation AM-5 system which would be early 90's. Kinda cool as it really was they one that started off the rush to 2.1 subsat systems.
I found myself by the local SA Saturday morning so I took a peek. Actually quite a bit of stuff on hand. A pair of Scott speakers, A pair of big Zeniths with what appeared to be Philips dome tweeters, a lone AR-94, a Realistic receiver, and much BPC. All kinda nifty stuff but I left it for the next one to come through. It was 1/2-off day so someone got a deal. I found much more interesting stuff at the dump however.

So far, my only Thrift finds were a pair of Mission 700's for $3 each and an orphan Infinity Qe for $7.99.
All 3 had excellent drivers. 1 Mission had a rattle, which turned out to be a loose X-O coil, and the Qe is the model with butyl rubber surrounds!! Been haunting the place for it's twin...:yes:

Yep, They sound great for the size. Cool coax design. Picked up a pair at American Thrift in Alabaster, Al a few years back. I use them for my test speakers when I pick up a new receiver or amp.:thmbsp:

Last week bought a perfect pair of DCM TF-350's for 12.99, other prior deals include Bozak B-302's for $20, KEF Model 102's for $25, 2 pairs of ADS L-420's $10 per pair, Marantz 2285B for $20, Fisher TA-600 Tube receiver for $20, and a pair of Tannoy Gold Monitors for $175. Most of these came from Goodwill or the local Park n Swap. There are others but I won't go on....

last Friday, I walked into Value Village? and spotted a pair of Klipsch Chorus speakers. These are big speakers. Not in Mint condition, but not bad. They had them marked $249. They won't negotiate price. I really had no place for them & walked away. :sigh:

June 7th finds....
While coming home from Tacoma ....we stopped at a couple thrift stores. I picked up a nice pair of Infinity Reference 3's....$14.95...3way..but need to redo the 8" woofers suspenions. I also picked up a small pair of 3" Acoustic Reasearch surround speakers..for $4.95. We had no more room in my brother's Honda ......as there was also a pair of EPI 120's, for $12.95....not too bad!!!! I'll post pictues later!!! .

At first passed on a pair of Cambridge Soundworks Model Six speakers at Salvation Army. They wanted $14.99 a piece and one of the woofer foams had a slit in it. No good discounts today since I am well under the age required for the 30% off senior discount.
After hitting a few more thrift stores that had absolutely zilch, went back 40 mins. later to the SA and the Model Six's were gone.
Ah well, I'll know next time to not think when I see the name "Henry Kloss" -- even if they will require re-foaming.
And yes, that is to YOU...ONE who bought my speakers. You better re-foam those puppies.

Stopped at the GW "Superstore" on the way home - It's usually a traffic nightmare getting there and from there to home, but school's out, so wasn't too bad.
Anyway, picked up a pair of Optimus PRO 77's for $3 ea. Unlike my Minimus 7's, these have foam surrounds, but the foam is in excellent shape. One of the grilles was pushed in, but it popped right back in place when I pulled it off the speaker.
My Minimus 7's are made in Japan, the 77's are from Malaysia. They don't seem to be quite as high quality as the 7's, but are slightly larger, with bigger "woofers". Both sets are the black metal.
I'm thinking of mating these with the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 subwoofer/amp that I picked up a while ago at GW without the satellites or control pod. I modded it to add an input jack, so this setup would be great, with the wifi-capable Freecom MusicPal internet radio / streamer, for summertime use on the deck, streaming from my FreeNAS music server.

So, tried this out on the workbench - not bad at all. The Klipsch Promedia 2.1 kicks out plenty of power to the 77's, and its built-in woofer (8" ?) has plenty of thump that has Keb' Mo' soundin' real good.
That left knob on the MusicPal is the volume, so I'm not missing the Promedia's control pod one bit. Not a bad system for $25 + $6 (not including the MusicPal).

Oaktree.com sells the JBL 2500 woofers for $35.00 each...and the tweeters for $25.00 each. I have parted a few out on Ebay over the years. They sell fast! ..Jim

Hit a couple of Rummage sales this weekend, did not see anything good. As I was going home I noticed my neighbor across the street had a rummage sale going...started late. I walked over and noticed a bunch of stereo equipment, only thing that look any good was a Harman Kardon HK 330i. I asked how much, they said $8....it sounds great.
Later went to Goodwill and found this nice Technics SA 500 for $6.

Interesting...perhaps I should pay them another visit then. I'm just noticing that thanks to the recession, it doesn't seem like people are really interested in spending money right now. We are definitely not in the same world it used to be.
Found a pair of ESS AMT 1D speakers
Found these at Value Village for $42. At first I thought they might have been a Ohm Walsh speaker. Almost walked away. The rear Passive radiators were gone & the top covers were in sad shape. But I decided to try them out. Cleaned up ok, Replaced the passives with poster board until the repair kit arrives. Tried to remove where they had marked the price, but the stain started coming off, so I'll have to restain them. They don't sound bad, but need a big room to do justice.
