"SPRING" Thrift Store Finds....

I remember 4 or 5 years back when I started looking in Thrifts they were a great source of good vintage audio at bargain basement prices. Now the Thrifts around here also carry junk but the prices have climbed out of the basement. Just as well because it led to overbuying, overstock, and underuse. I don't go anymore.
 
At the SA yesterday I picked up thes Pioneer HPM-500s for $5.00. And at the DAV I picked up these Klipsch KG 2s, older style no rear passive for $8.00.

YOU ALMOST WALKED AWAY??????
I have used 000 steel wool and Formsby lemon oil to clean all the wood projects I have, seems to do the job.

If i saw those in our local Value Village, i would faint.....they never have any speakers......well they once had an orphaned Realistic minimus somthing or other for $19.99........

At first glance they looked trashed, mainly because of the covers were broken & the radiators gone. I did walk away from a pair of Klipsch Chorus they had for $250. They were huge & I had no place for them.:tears:

Sansui G-971

I woke up early this morning and went to my local flea market. Came accross this Sansui G-971 receiver. The guy wanted 50.00 and I started walking away. It could have been a huge mistake, when he lowered the price to 40.00, I decided to test it and make sure it worked. It did so I bought it, other than the wood cabinet is beat up a bit and the inside is dusty, it works great. almost killed my back carrying it to my truck but worth the pain.

I went back today and checked them out. I am now checking them out at home. ;)

I am somehow mistaken -- there is no way these have been repainted. If they are, it's a flawless job. I'm fairly certain I know what to look for and I find no evidence that these were any other color but black.

Problem is I can't find any reference to any other color for these but oak on the net. Weird. Maybe the guy who owned these was a pro? Flawless, I say!

Wood dough, great sanding, good primer, and good paint with a smooth foam rubber roller or a spray gun can make beat up cabinets look damn nice.:yes:
 
Also found some EPI A70's the other day that needed refoaming for $6. After a refoam, they sound very nice for mini bookshelf speakers.

I picked up a pair of Pioneer CS-88A for $20 at the thrift store. They are in pretty good condition. The foam for the tweeters is gone, of course. Does anybody have a line on foam for those?

Saw a pair of DCM Time Window 1A's and a pair of Klipsch Tangent 500's for $150 (each pair) at a local Thrift Store. I'm absolutely broke so had to pass on both (although from what I've read, I would only have been happy with one of them).

Finally after a week, they were both gone today. I'm actually glad...that carrot was dangling for too long!

I considered buying the DCM's to possibly resell but Los Angeles + CL seems to be a waste of time right now. Thank you recession!

By the way, nice job on that refoam. Those speakers look really cool to me -- for some reason I can't take my eyes off of them whenever I come to this thread. ;)
