"SPRING" Thrift Store Finds....

Jensen TF-3B's for 30.
a little scratched but they are one of the best speakers for female vocals I have ever heard. I think much of that is the mids running all the way up to 10khz, sounds more cohesive. Very efficient, running them with my Pop Pulse T70i t-amp (35 w/c). Not sure I believe the 25 hz extension mentioned on the back, but the bass is not lacking for anything but HT. Just sounds liquid. I would love to try them with some tubes.

Same thrift store Cerwin Vega D-3's 20 bucks

need refoaming but with woofers swapped from some other speakers I had lying around they are awesome party speakers. Bass roars and treble is smooth-ish, but more balanced than the later CV's I have heard.

Decent finds lately, seems odd in a recession. This is Washington though I guess... who knows :P

I picked up a pair of Pioneer CS-88A for $20 at the thrift store. They are in pretty good condition. The foam for the tweeters is gone, of course. Does anybody have a line on foam for those?

thanks

There's several foam sellers on E-bay.
IIRC, Geoaliwil, an AK member, is there and has a very extensive selection.

Saturday finds

Went to the Humane Society 1st Sat yard sale (they were closed the 4th), picked up a pair of JBL Decade 26's (plus 4 LCD Video projectors, 2 Sonys, 1 Epson & 1 Infocus) for $10 for all. They need refoaming. Went later this afternoon to Breaking Free TS. I saw 3 pieces sitting on the floor in the electronics section, a JVC receiver & Hitachi integrated amp, not working. One the bottom was a Marantz 4270 2+4 Quad receiver. It powered on, but no sound. the case was a little rough. I paid my $10 & got it home. Finally, got all settings correct & got sound from my CD player. The controls are a little scratchy. The tuner pointer is stuck, I'll take it apart tomorrow to check it out & clean & de-ox it.

I also went to a Great Dane Rescue yard sale and found a mint pair of Cambridge Sound Works Model Six's. Connected them up with my Marantz 4070 Quad integrated (its the little cousin to the 4270 receiver that gary7 found). Wow, I'm amazed at the sound of those speakers. However, they're a little particular about placement. But after some fiddling, they sound sweet. One of the best $15 I ever spent.

Marantz 4270

This is the 4720 I got Saturday. Front cleaned up good, the inside will need alittle more work. I found why the station pointer was stuck. A screw behind the inner panel plate on the upper right corner had backed out enough to cause friction as the pointer moved to the right corner. Works fine on tape inputs & aux & phono, but dead on am/fm. No static at all on am. The meters don't even move. :tears: may take it to repair shop.

I found a bunch of Soul/Northern Soul/Rock Steady original 60's vinyl in mint condition, some of them still sealed. The Tams, The Impressions, Jimmy Ruffin, Ken Boothe, Solomon Burke, Atlantic various artist comps. Most less than a $1.00 each.

Found these JBL L15's at a consignment shop last week.....I just finished up the refoaming last night. I refinished the cabinets in Watco Danish Oil - natural and now they look brand new. I can't wait to listen to them tonight.

Maggie console MINT

I picked up a Magnavox console this morning. I found it a local fleamarket, as with most old stuff, it was almost ready to be taken to dumster by people who don't know what they have. I could have gotten it for free, but offer the guy 20.00 bucks before I realized It was being thrown out. It is in mint condition, just a bit dusty. Everything on it works, it looks like it was never opened, all the screws in the back are in place and not loose. It has original owner's manual still in envelope!

A (nother) pair of Nova 7b's, got these ones for $4.99 a piece at Value Village. The drivers are in fine shape, one pushed in dust cap on a tweeter, which I'll take care of later.
Cleaned the grills up and tried some lemon oil on the cabinets....will try sanding them a little and using some linseed oil next.

Saw a set of "Ashton" Home Theater speakers at the local SA. I had a feeling they were of the "White Van" variety but wasn't sure until I did a google search. Yep!

Best part..they were priced at $1,700. Easily the most expensive thing I've ever seen at a thrift store. And the least worthy at that!
