Stanton 681EEE New Cartridge Equivalents

The thing about Bluz Bros is that I have never heard of or seen any other reference to “American Needle.” No idea at all where that comes from or what it is and I’ve never been tempted enough to find out.

I don’t think they’re closed as in shuttered. I think I experienced the same problem once when I was interested in a cartridge they carried, so I called and some guy picked up who was the owner. He was friendly enough and helpful.

What about their new D6800 EEE III stylus which they say is made by Stanton? Would this be a good replacement stylus. $188.45. http://www.adelcom.net/StantonStylus1.htm

The slot at the top of the gauge "on every gauge I've ever seen" has been cut incorrectly. Note the quote. I'm not saying that 100% of them are off-axis but enough seem to be that it makes all of them suspect, IMO. There have been other posts here on AK mentioning this so I'm not the only person to have noticed this. It's usually pretty to spot with the naked eye.
I'll vouch for this. Off center on mine for sure.

Bluz Bros got back to me this morning, and the American Made stylus is actually made in Columbia. So easy pass on that one.

That's very interesting. I guess Colombia is, technically, America as in South America. I'd be interested in trying it because that seems like it might be a high end version of the Colombia-made TEI styli that I like so much. Still, it's not going to be better than the Jico D1200 that is $76 with shipping, so I'd pass. Further, given that you don't see this stylus anywhere else, it makes me wonder if this is some really old and crusty dusty stock.

It's just a Normarh, not worth messing with.

I'm not sure I trust it, but maybe I'll grab it to test out. Waiting on refunds from the shitty auction site styli. They want $13 for shipping, which is crazy.

That's $93.00 for a generic 0.4 x 0.7 mil elliptical. That's a pretty good approximation of crazy. With a recommended tracking force of 1.5 to 3.0g, you're within the range of a D6800EL (2.0 to 5.0g). If you're comfortable with a fairly heavy tracking 0.4 x 0.7 mil, Gary has genuine D6800ELs (and D680s) in stock for $50.00 and $60.00 respectively.

Those work in the 681eee? If so, that 824-DE .3x.7 (.75-1.5 g is great) might be worth it. I doubt I'd actually grab that $90 one.

Edit: They are 680's, so of course they do. Stupid me.

Yup! It's a really good stylus. The 680EE is the Stanton equivalent to the Pickering XV-15/625E. Some prefer it to the higher level cartridges.

I’d go for the OEM D680. If I knew those were available, I’d have recommended that to the OP!

Doh!

I think Gary just added them yesterday or the day before. He apparently added some Pickerings but not any of the ones relevant to this thead.

You lost me. Gary from where? I can't follow which supplier you are referring to. Bluz Broz doesn't have any OEM D680s listed that i see. Were you referring to some other place?

I hesitate to tell you. Gary's already too well known.;) Gary Stork from V-M Audio Enthusiasts, our favorite source for styli. Gary often has hard to find styli at very low prices.

Those look nice. I have no idea what cartridge those are for, since I'm not well versed in ADC. You're probably glad I didn't see them, too, because I may have been tempted to cut them off and use them for retips.

XT P-mount, same inductance as the Integra which is where I would have used it.

Retips be damned!;)

Grabbed a OEM D680 last night. Can't wait to get it. I wonder if I got his only one?

Probably his last one but he had more than one, I think.

Some of the higher priced nagaoka models would compare to the stanton/pickering since they are moving iron like the stanton/pickering. You will be disappointed by any offering by Shure. You may also like the Grado sound since they also are moving iron.

It's not correct to equate the sound of cartridges based on similarity of type. Empires sound quite different to Stanterings, just as ADCs sound different to these and Grados sound different to all of them.

It's also not correct to say that someone won't like something, anything, just because it's in some way different to another thing that they do like. You're free to say that you don't like something, but not that someone else won't.
