Starting a build

Hi Paul ,

One of the TO-300 outputs was bad , took a while to find another , also it's been so wet here that my basement floor has water coming up through it and have a strong dislike of working on a damp floor with 400 + volts .

Gotta love StL area and those older basement. I sure wish there were basements out here.

Keep us posted when you get back to these.

Yeah I don't think the water will make much difference if those babies light you up. You'll be well done even dry.

Love this build. I use to live in St Charles, MO. Some of us can load up and come by for the preview. Anybody else want to go to Mark's house?

I just saw one not sell on epay for 70 bucks. I was watching it and forgot to snipe it.

And to think the dogs kept me out a extra 5 minutes. I was gonna bid on that one and missed it by 2 minutes. I would have been bidding against you. Maybe next time they take their good ole time deciding where to Pee, rather than bitching them out Ill pat them on the head.

I thought we would want a spare .

Finaly got these working , it helps to have good output transformers .

Need to mount the 5 way binding posts and fine tune the feedback network for these output transformers .

Those are hot, Mark!

Now, how about a matching pre-amp that fits right into the ^ between the two amps?

Hey, I like that Idea:banana: I still have the extra two plates and the bases would be nothing to do again since I saved enough of the wood to do several more. Hmmmmm:scratch2: BTW Mark, they look great!!!!

I picked these up yesterday from battradio and I really dont know where to start SO Lets start with whats the most important thought to me right now- THANK YOU MARK!!!! These sound so good I cant get the smile off of my face, you did a fantastic job. They are everything I hoped they would be and then more. I appreciate all the patience as I asked the typical stupid questions Im known for and for all the great advise. Its the folks like you that make AK as great as it is. Thanks!!!!! Heres a few more pics of them set up. I can honestly say that this is one of the few times for me with audio gear, when everything just worked out perfectly. :thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp:

I only just found this thread. Absolutely beautiful execution. Makes me lust after monoblock amps once again . . . :tears:

Here's a suggestion. Where you have the 15K and 270K resistors, try replacing the 270K with a 220K and use a 50K pot where the 15K resistor is. Now you can adjust the output of one half of the phase splitter to equal the output from the other, thus doing an AC balance. This is somewhat critical when using this type of phase splitter unless you plan to run the amp very very conservatively. Also, using a cathode resistor and bypass cap for each output tube works well. Just double the resistance value relative to a common cathode resistor (ie, if the common cathode resistor is 250 ohms, if you use one for each tube, use 500 ohm resistors.)
