Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused To Sing

It must be pretty good considering I'm a luke warm fan of him and PT (I actually started listening to PT back before they were big) and I like it!

Its a brilliant album....My #1 album of 2013 and possibly the last two years. It has everything...
jazz, fusion, prog rock, metal.

I keep hearing it's good ... but that wasn't my experience. It got a couple plays here and got shelved, and I'm a BIG fan of PT.

Gonna have to cue it up again and see if I can figure out what you're all ravenin ... er ... raving about ...

Anyone tried Storm Corrosion? SW teams up with Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth ... similar feel to it, but I find that much more compelling ... one of the regular go to spins here.

I listened to Storm Corrosion. Too much toward Metal for me, but I am sure those who like Metal will like it.

I picked up the vinyl of this "great" album a month ago. I really need to pick up more of his and PT's stuff. Steve Wilson has done a great job on the Tull, Krimson and Yes reissues as well! What a talent!

For PT, check out "Lightbulb Sun."

I bought Storm Corrosion when it came out, I was expecting much more....I probably need to listen again as a sit down session.

I also really enjoy SW other project, Blackfield.....Blackfield I&II are very good.

IMO

I don't think there is a single bad song on this CD! As good or better than his best with Porcupine Tree. Inventive and musical. Inspired lyrics.

Steven Wilson is an incredible artist. I've got most of the Porcupine Tree catalog from Lightbulb Sun forward. Also have to first 2 Blackfield albums, and his 3 solo works.

The Raven That Refused to Sing is another great work, IMO. The title track affects me profoundly, and I believe that the hallmark of any great art is to reach you emotionally. His work does that for me.

Also, anything he works on is really well produced and sonically excellent... just the thing to audition that new piece of gear!

I will say that most of their work didn't grab me on the first listen. For me, it took a few times to really appreciate what I was hearing. But I find that it's totally worth it.

As always, YMMV.

I like this album and have it but have not heard the other one mentioned yet.
