I'd be surprised if AK folks would be willing to pony up enough dough to satisfy the profit motive. Seemed like he wanted top dollar.

I wish I could find something as good as Jones had.
I would at least give it a chance to compare to my other gear.

Then again, the guy says he doesn't have the space for a rack this size.
He has a Sony mini-system that he adores.

Still, he should have given AKers a crack at it before putting it on ebay.
Guess now he will have to find another place for info before flipping.

This is the part that sort of confounds me: Why does ANYONE need AK for info when you're flipping for a buck? Do a search for an item in the completed transactions on Ebay, that should get you started. Next, describe the item as accurately as possible and take a ton of good pictures in natural light. If you're not sure how much you're willing to let it go for, set a reasonable reserve that you can live with. This goes for ALL items, not just stereo gear. What do you want to bet that pjones sells all sorts of crap, and has his eye out to make a buck on a lot more than vintage stereo? Do you think he needs to go to other internet sites to "research" the value of all of his items?

These posts seem more like advertising in bad taste to me, and a lame way to avoid Ebay fees on the off chance an AKer wants to pay top dollar to a vulture.
 
I'm new to AK - back in March. I found a SX-950 curbside. I found and wrote to AK because the damn thing was so beautiful, I knew it had to be resurrected, even though I knew zippo about old audio gear. And that's just what I did ... took it to Merrylander and he got the old girl is singing like she should. I never thought of selling her, just bringing her back and letting her spoil me with great-sounding music. That curbside find was the start of a terrific hobby that has brought me great pleasure and allowed me to meet some wonderful people.

Selling? Well, I bought two pair of AR 2ax's from a local guy and I am selling a pair to another AKer who will be coming through my area this weekend. Price? Exactly what I paid, because I know he will fully restore and cherish them. That’s worth more to me than $50.

I don't know, it seems the soul of this forum is a love of music, nostalgia for simpler times, and a desire to restore beautifully designed pieces of audio equipment that we will never see the likes of again. “Flipping” just doesn’t jive with that, IMHO.

I'm new to AK, and i'm getting some interesting reading material if anything. I wonder how many of you would have sold that stuff to somebody on AK for 60.00 bucks ? I also wonder what was the last great piece that somebody bought from another AK member for the price they paid for it..

I will say this I purchased a Sansui G-7700 from AK member Toasted Almond for way less then it was worth because I was an AK member. Stick around awhile before making statements about the good members here.

Mingodog - I would, but there is a difference here. I don't going scrounging for equipment just to make a quick buck - and I certainly don't empathize those who do. If I would have purchased this, I would be using it - not trolling for advice on reselling. If (when) any of my equipment goes, it will be for a fair (or free) price - sorry you don't understand that.

Will the eBay purchaser know that his gear was just scrounged for $60? Prob'ly not. Do I know what is in sausage? No, and I don't want to. Some things are better left unsaid.

If you want to chirp about the great deal you got, that's fine. I have done it on this forum before. However, it doesn't make a lot of sense (to me, anyway) to divulge the details of the deal and then offer those goods at a substantially inflated price. There's a psychological element there that I am too stupid to explain, but I know it when I see it (or rather, when I feel it).

I see the point you're making. If he had sold to an AK member for $300, what happens when it shows up on eBay the next week split up with BIN prices of $299 each? Or sell for $60, and find out they sold the C-2 for $200 to a 'friend'. Or, what if he had left it behind at the thrift for some other 'audiophile' to pick up at $60? It would be on eBay soon enough, and someone else has made the 'profit'. (a similar situation has actually happened to me).
I think pjones2127 is doing what most people would do. Posting here to tell us all about it, or ask a bunch of questions, is what I think is getting him into the bad-book with some people.
