Talk about needing a hobby...

I have decided (much to the dismay of my wife), to stop shaving. To be honest, I haven't shaved my entire face in years. Considering how much homely the goatee has always covered up, I think that's probably for the best.

Over the years I've grown more and more fed-up with the whole shaving thing. Then it dawned on me (right before thanksgiving) that I don't have to shave anymore! Not even a little shaving, none, nada, zip! Five years I've been home-bound, and it took me that long to realize that I DON'T HAVE TO SHAVE ANYMORE! Yippee!

So I thought it might be fun to document the whole thing, and ask questions of as I go - Cause it should be obvious, I got nuttin' better to do. Plus I know if I chicken out you guys will rag me, which is kinda like asking your mom to help you diet!

Picture; This morning after feeding the dogs - Keep in mind the goatee had a head start, but this is a month's worth of Fotno Fur™!

I hate shaving too, I let the beard grow during winter because it is much warmer. My wife likes the growth as long as I trim and keep my neck clean shaven.

I guess as long as your wife isn't too disagreeable let it grow it looks good on you!

I'd do it, but my beard would be all grey & white-making me look even more ancient than I am... But Fotno, yours looks good on you...& if Miz Fotno approves, what more do you want ?

I too hate shaving. But, due to the fact I can't grow a full beard, I must do it.

Because of the presence of Native American blood in my viens - I am unable to grow a full beard. (Ever seen an old Indian with a moustache? Didn't think so.)

Keep it growing and post more pics of yo' hairy self!

Thanks fellers! Mrs. Fotno really doesn't mind, she just prefers the goatee.

I used to grow mine out then shave it too Army, my work and my former GF "too scratchy" didn't like it more than a 1/4" long

Sandy, don't let the grey slow you down brother. My grandmother used to say that grey hair was a privilege of age, and that she had earned every single one of hers... Besides, the grey you CAN see under my lower lip, what the photo doesn't show is that the sides are nearly ALL white. I figure if I stay at it, in a few years or so I'll have Gandalf down pat!

Herb; My wife is Cherokee on her Daddy's side, and his moustache is very slight, but he has the best head of hair I believe I've ever seen on a man in his mid-sixties. So all in all I'd call that a pretty good trade :D.

Was the wind blowing in that pic, or does it always grow to the right?

No, normally just straight down smart-aleck:D! But, the wind was really blowing, and ding-dangit it's been COLD here. Bout 20˚ when I took that picture. I didn't realize it had gotten long enough to blow in the wind till I saw it!

i wouldn't mind a beard but it would be all grey and make me look much older than i already am...

good luck there.....

I was just funning with ya, hoss...I couldn't grow a beard like that if I lived as long as Methusalah.

What man doesn't hate shaving, but we all have our reasons why we think we must. Until you come to realization that maybe you don't have to, as fotno did. What a relief!

I can do whatever I want but shaving is better than an ugly beard, so for me, I shave every other day.

Terry

Aw heck, my beard has been gray since my 30s--now it's essentially white in my late 40s. I usually have a beard in winter and bare faced during the rest. When I get sick of shaving on comes the beard, when I'm sick of that, back to the shaving, and so forth.

Go for it Sandy!

Nice there Mr. Fotno!

But your moustache looks so good in your avatar! ;)

In real life, I had a moustache for years and years. Once when my oldest son was around 10 or so, I shaved it off for a while- he'd never seen me without it, and I recall him drawing pictures of us, and he drew me still with the moustache.

I find this thread topic to be vaguely disturbing :-)

OK, I hate to shave, and I've had a beard, off and on, since about 1980. I had it when my wife & I started dating semi-seriously. She said she didn't like beards. I shaved it off. She said "grow it back".

Life's like that sometimes.

Damn, Mark, that's the exact expression my History prof had when I asked him if I could take that exam over again...Right B4 he tossed me outta his office...<grin>

Dangit, I knew that expression on Mark's face looked familiar... You and I must have known that same professor Sandy!

I was going for the academic look. I got the "alcoholic academic" look, somehow.

Y'know... I used to think that I was the ultimate confection of redneck and scholar. Nowadays I am pretty sure that Sandy's got me beat in that regard.
