Any one ordered one yet? So the rest of us will know the latest.. At least its half the price of the SL 1200 G at $4000 when introduced. $2200 seems like a fair asking price. Wonder why Europe gets eerything Technics first? I know. They listen to records, we stream. Well most of you do. I don't. Records and CD's for me.

the 1200G model is selling so well, retailers are having a tough time keeping them in stock. The GR is good for what it offers, but its not a G.

I feel like the GR was ~$1600 last time I checked, not that long ago. Has the updated model really jumped to $2200? Damn, and I thought Rega US pricing had jumped the shark in the last two years.

YEs I have to agree with the nbetter more sophisticated tone arm and the more sophisticated platter the G is probably a better TT for sure. But with everything in the drive being updated on theGR is the small difference worth another $2000.00. I understand the GR2 has much updated feet that brings it closer to the G also.

I have no doubt about the merit of the GR. I've looked at them myself, but I considered one at $1600. It's that extra $600 that made me gulp a little when I saw your post. Still the Technics machines, especially the GR and above, are standouts with no doubt.

Look, during the dark days of the 1980s LP12 cult nonsense, we didn't get any decent Japanese turntables in the UK. It's only right that the balance is redressed a bit!

My view is this -- I will take the plunge in a year when the early adapters/buyers decide that they are chasing something else and sell their GR2 machines at 40-50% off

I had for test in the last spring a new SL-1200GR at home, for replacing my two venerable Thorens who could not stand my flex floor :

And finally opted for the SL-1200G... Why ? I had the money to offer me "a 1200G must for pleasure", over my initial and more reasonable choice of the 1200GR...

I mean : if a SL-1200G is over your budget target, go without any hesitation for the SL-1200GR : in no way you will be disappointed ! Both are really great machines, simple to setup and operate, pragmatic and efficient, reliable and high performance.

One of the big improvements in the G is the brass coupled aluminum platter. A person may be able to get part way there with a GR-2 by adding the doukmall brass platter mat under the rubber mat. It works super well on the older 1200 mk2 - mk5 series as well as other DD tables that have a cast aluminum platter and adjustable arm height.

Is the vm95c which I see one of your regular carts for these? I actually just picked up a 95c for kicks. Sounds pretty good indeed!

Yes, that's what is stated on my SL-1200G - bought new 19th 04/2023 :

Nice! A 1200G is what I'm saving for, once the 1200MkII wears out. Which is like in two of my lifetimes.
