Technics sl-1700

Nice table. Lots of threads on it the Mk2 and the full auto 1600 and manual 1800 versions.

Here is the "Official" thread you can enjoy while you wait for more comments

Searching will also bring up 20+ pages of threads that might have an issue mentioned in the title if you have problems.

Welcome to ak.

Welcome to the forums! I have an SL-1800, the manual version of your deck. Mine has been recapped, and the tonearm rewired. Aside from no height adjustment on the tonearm, it's given me no trouble.

I bought a 1700 over a decade ago. It's a rock solid table and has needed no service. You've acquired a well-made deck that should work reliably for a long time. Congrats and welcome to AK.

I was having so much trouble with my sl-230 belt drive unit that I made the change to a direct drive unit

That’s a good move. These high-teen hundred tables are very nice units. Not a fan of a lot of Technics tables from lack of familiarity but have used the non-mk2 units and had an 1800II and now have a 1600II.

Not sure if you will ever experience this issue but I just replaced the signal cables from my 1900. Apparently, the strain relief really pinches the cables shorting them out and requiring replacement.

I really like these later Technics turntables (1300+) - really solid performers.

The 1900, despite sharing the same naming convention, is not part of the 1200-1800 series. It was a lower budget model (but still a good performer).

Hi everyone, i just recap the Technics Sl-1700 (MKI). when i bring the tone arm to the record i hear the switch turning on, the neon strobe lits, but the platter won't even budge rather 33 or 45 rpm. Does this problem ring a bell to someone?
N.B. C12 is not installed on the picture, it's now populated since i tried it a couple of times, i checked all soudering i did, it didn't change anything. Just like the voltage doesn't get to the stator.

Hi, I've been trought a similar problem just week ago (changed all electrolythics, both transistors, changed all diodes, changed VR's, measured all resistors and the rests dismounted, resoldered everything, but my platter was still behaving like it wants to spin but moved just a few inches - usually CCW and stopped (I even tryed it with another spare stator and platter without any results)

I was still measuring the IC to had very strange values and my problem was fixed after IC replacement

You need to check the input voltage to your IC first to determine your power supply as it's different than the one that comes in to strobe, also check if properly grounded

Have you allready moved somewhere with your problem?
