I picked up a mint looking SU-G90 for just $19.99.
I can't find much information about this amp. It's quite powerful, 130 wpc!

'New Class A'. Very heavy. Has a cooling fan.

Any thoughts on this amp?

I've got New Class A. Bought it new 30+ years ago and still enjoying it today. Only 100W though.

My guess as to why @Binkman posted what he posted is based on your initial post (see above) which, and to not trying to be contentious here, is vague.

Tons of threads have been started with similar terminology, some folks don't want to make an effort so they just post hoping someone else will point them to the info.

Others sincerely don't know how to search the web or use AK's search feature.

I can't find much about it in terms of reviews, opinions, valuation, etc.

It wasn't til you replied that you were looking for reviews, opinions and valuation.

Either way I don't think there was any malice in what he was trying to add.

Ok no offense taken.

The SU-G90 is… fair and usable, just make sure not to block the cooling vents and not to use it at elevated volume levels for too long. The cooling solution in the mid to late 90s entry- to mid-tier Technics amps is seriously compromised, with too small heatsinks and an exhaust fan that is current-driven (instead of temperature). The SU-G90 further uses integrated power amplifier chips, which are ok by themselves, but tend to be more sensitive to high temperatures due to their small packaging (the transistors are less spread out across the heatsink).

About New Class A: this is Technics' term for a class AB amplifier with signal-driven current modulation. Similar principles were used by other manufacturers, with different implementations (Denon for example used an optocoupler somewhere and called it "Optical Class A").
Often dismissed as "fake class A" or "class A for the poor", this is actually much better than true class A, as it is miles more efficient and eliminates crossover distortions just as effectively.
The SU-G90 is a rather low-end inheritor of New Class A. The biggest amplifier ever made with this topology was the Technics SE-A3MK2, which plays in a completely different league.
Technics released multiple such topologies. The predecessor of New Class A was Class A+, only ever released on one model and completely different in how it works. Later on, Technics released Class AA, which works yet again differently and is still used to this day in some of the newly launched devices.

Wow thank you that's great information. Thanks for taking the time to write this :)
