The Best 50 Dollar A Pair Speakers Ever ??

greenreese said:
Well it was definitely over 2 months, and I only paid $35.
The $35 was a one time where they were $15 off probaby 3 months ago or so I believe. All other sales were either $40 or $45.

Now they'll probably be on sale for $60 or $70.........:thumbsdn:

Best Buy had them on sale for $35.00 during Father's Day weekend last year. that was when I bought them. I am currently using them right now with my Concept 11.0 receiver. I am also using a pair of Minimus 7 speakers stacked on them and so far I have no complaints...:D

What possible reason could BB have for jacking up the price that far, and then lying about it??:grumpy:
This is why I go to Sound Advice.

Here are a couple of reasons why, in the absence of a GREAT sale price, demand for the Insignias sales will certainly drop:

And a more compelling reason, IMO, due to their obviously same heritage:

http://www.radiient.com/s.nl/it.A/id.5/.f

At $100 (including shipping) as of this writing, the Radiient appears to be a FAR better value than the 'Sigs. The Polks look pretty cool too, though no experienced commentary here at AK - yet.

Yep, BB may have been "too clever by half" when they decided their little sleeper was underpriced at $50!

Just took a look at the Radiient site...

"Advanced Oblate Quasitriangular Antiresonant (OQA™) cabinet design"

I have no idea what that is, but I totally want it.

I bet you the almost DOUBLING of the Insignia's price, with Radiient's cuttings theirs in HALF (w/ree shipping), is a connected move. Either BB owns Radiient and knows they've been killing themselves, or the "manufacturer" worked out some deal to help their customers.

I'm not sure that speaker really NEEDS a super-tweeter though.

Thanks ozmoid, I think I'm gonna go with the Polk's because they're $50 now at Fry's, and are a name brand in speakers, even though these Insignia's appear to be pretty great.

Polk R15's are pure crap compared to the Insignias.......:thumbsdn:

I have a pair of Polk R-15s and a pair of the Insignias.

The R-15 is a very nice small speaker. I team them with a T-Amp and an iPod for portable sounds for workshops and cabin vacations. They do a nice job. They were worth the $39 (a steal) I paid for them at Fry's, but not the $225 MSRP Polk claimed (new lowered MSRP is $180).

The Insignias are much larger speakers that sound much larger. All around a better speaker, but it won't fill the same purpose as the small R-15.

The Insignia should be compared to the Polk Monitor 40 (MSRP $350), size-wise, but I haven't done that.

The Polk R-15 and the Insignia are both made in China with similar budget construction quality.

YMMV, of course.

I listened to the Insignia's today..they sounded, eh, alright for $70 a pair. For $40 a pair I would definitely get them over the Polk's, but I can get the R15's for just $50 a pair at Fry's (like stated earlier). I'm going to test them out tomorrow and see how they compare. Whatever I buy will be used as a second pair of speakers at my desk, mostly for TV but also some music.

Were you listening to a pair of Insignias that were broken in? BIG difference!
Most of us got the Insignias for either $40 or even $35 while they had a lower price and on sale.

I have both pair also as I have a pair of R15's in one bedroom and a pair of the Insignias in another bedroom. I'm telling you the R15's can't hold a candle to the Insignias once you get them a crankin'...........:thmbsp:

I ordered two pair (4) R15's for an exercise room at work and a pair of Insignias in a bigger exercise room at work. The lone pair of Insignias in the bigger room sound a hell of a lot better than the two pair also!

IMO, the Insignias are even better than the Polk R15's big brother, the R30 floorstanders..............

So I went to Best Buy today and tested out the Insignias again, and decided to buy them. When I got them home I remembered something important that I forgot to look up...are they shielded? A quick online search told me that they are not. Crap. I will (sadly) be taking these back and buying the Polk R15's instead.

Might be time to upgrade from the CRT at the same time........:D

Did you test it out and see if it affects your picture?

At this point, you might as well crank away on them, break them in, and test them for up to 30 days so you know what you'll be missing when you pick up the R15's.....:D
