The cover better than the original

Toss in a vid of Hendrix going' @ "Hey Joe" (live performance preferred) and it's covered. (note: I don't agree re: IM's cover being better than JT's original -- studio or stage version(s))

With all due respect to Eagles, living and dead, I'll take Linda Ronstadt's Desperado over theirs.

And while I'm at it, her version of Colorado smokes the Burritos original. Sorry, Rick, great song but she sings it better than you.

Happy trails,
Larry B.
I agree with you 100 percent. I'll throw in Linda's version of Tumblin dice. Her voice was so good it's scarey.

Her Mad Love album is full of good covers. Three of Elvis Costello alone. Her version of Girl's Talk smokes Costello's. Plus a Neil Young cover and three from the obscure but excellent Cretones.

Anyone here familiar with Ashley Cleveland? I generally find "Christian music" too sweet and insipid, but she has some real guts, and does secular tunes if they have a spiritual angle. Her cover of Gimme Shelter tops the Stones in my book. Her husband and guitarist, Kenny Greenberg (bald guy with white guitar), is top notch.

I can't see any of the You Tube videos, so I cannot tell if these have been mentioned:
Johnny Winter's cover of "Highway 61" by Dylan is excellent.
Aretha Franklin just OWNS "Respect" by Otis Redding
Tom T. Hall & Earl Scruggs version of the Stones "No Expectations" smokes the original. (Sorry KenninDC)

And speaking of Linda Ronstadt ... The entire Hasten Down the Wind album, but I'm especially crazy about Crazy ... must be a hundred versions of that floating about, but this one always floats to the top for me.

"Hey There Lonely Boy."

This wasn't a hit for Ruby and the Romantics (my jukebox copy). It reached only #27 in 1963

But it was a hit as, "Hey There Lonely Girl" for Eddie Holman, reaching #2 in 1970

So it must have been considered better by most, but I still prefer the original version.
