The Great Weight Loss Challenge -09

Ok. I was doing so well a year ago. I was down to about 190. I need to be at 180. It all went to hell for a while and I was back up to 105. Ouch.

Today I weighed in at 200.00. Ok. I'm back on track. Let's see what I can do now that spring is here.

I am not doing so well... just haven't gotten it together either with eating or exercising. :( I'm right around 200 again. :(

Today I weighed myself....after hovering around 320 (usually above), I am down to 314...I certainly look a bit thinner to myself in a mirror....

I'm up to 245, from around 230 a few months ago.:jawdrop: D@mn Tollhouse brand oatmeal raisin cookies. They make them thing to easy to pop in the oven and have fresh baked cookies.:dammit::D

Whenever I say I'm going to lose weight I don't. I just don't do good with public accountability.

Easier said than done, but a sure way too loose weight is.......

PORTION REDUCTION........................

Reduce the amount of what you eat and you are guaranteed to loose weight.

There is yet another study done recently to back it up..........

(Hope this helps)

287.8. I am now officially down 100 lbs from where I started...Unbelievable !!

Well if loosing the 100 doesn't remove the "spiteful old cuss" from your moniker, I don't know what will.

This is not an insignificant achievement folks! I have a friend who lost 100 in the last two years, and the transformation in his emotional state was incredible.

A tip o' the hat to you sir, and good luck in your continued quest for good health and happy times!

Congrats on a Huge milestone! Keep up the good work and continue on the path to feeling better and continued better health. Yep that means the (spiteful ol cus) just might become the (hornery ol cus) in stead. :D

Guys, this sounds like BS, perhaps, but its TRUE...Having all the support here has made all the difference in the world...Y'all will NEVER KNOW how much it has meant to me...Now, on to 200...Tora, Tora, Tora !! (grin)

I don't really "feel" like I've lost all that much weight...BUT, I don't huff 'n' puff walking from one end of the house to the other...I can tell it in my face & shoulders when I look in the mirror...And talk about "Old Droopy Drawers"...My sister said my pants look like a family of baboons fell outta 'em...This really, in one way, hasn't been all that bad of an ordeal...Still coming to terms w/NEVER AGAIN being able to "wolf" down 3X as much food as I really need to eat-you GOTTA take it slow ! Don't much like the tremendous amount of "gas" & diahrrea that seems to be part of this, but its sposed to minimise as yr system gets used to yr new plumbing. I'll never be able to go out in public again w/o a shirt on, lest people think a George Romero flick has actually come true...Still, losing 100 lbs since February ain't chopped liver...

Hey all, didn't know this thread was in existence.

I'm a fairly big guy and always have been. I'm 5'9 and my weight is right at 240 right now. I'm planning on getting down to 210-220 lbs over time. I've felt my best at 200 lbs. but thats a VERY hard weight for me to stay at.

I like weightlifting for exercise - I've had a membership at a local gym for 2 1/2 years and unlike many who go that route, I use mine :). However, I had two pretty big life changes last year thats thrown my weight waaay off kilter. I lost my 30 year job working at a Ford plant (shut down last summer) and am now a college student at age 49. That in itself made my lifestyle less physically active. I also had shoulder surgery (bone spur removal and a rotator cuff tear repair to boot) last October and that REALLY put me past the edge. Tried to get back in the gym about a month after the surgery, but the shoulder balked at that in a big way at that time. I decided to take the winter away from lifting and give the shoulder all the time it needed to heal properly, which I did. Now I'm six weeks back into routine workouts, 3 - 4 times each week depending on how my body feels. I'm also drinking a green food supplement and making sure my body has plenty of Vitamin C to stay healthy, even if I'm carrying more weight than I would like.

I'm on "vacation" meaning I have a break between semesters - I start summer classes in two weeks and my spring classes ended two weeks ago. I haven't been too worried about my diet during this period because I've had the opportunity to go out with friends (and go a few dates) and have some nice meals I wouldn't have the time to enjoy during college semesters. I'll be better regimenting my diet when classes begin again.

A few years ago I was in (what was for me) really good shape, and I got there by having a diet very close to vegetarian and being consistent when it comes to working out week after month after year. One thing I know about my body. Without rigorous exercise, I'm a sure candidate for fat boy posters!

Congrats Sandy! That's an INCREDIBLE amount to lose, and it takes a lot of self-discipline. And for those who are reading your account, just having the operation isn't the easy fix. I had a friend who was in the 425-lb range, maybe 475 for a time, and he had been that way long enough for his ankles and knees to fail, and for his heart to be in trouble. He had the surgery, but wasn't able to obey the portion allowances shortly after the surgery. His came un-stapled, and his doctor said he wasn't in good enough shape to try to fix it safely. I wrote this because there could be some other people who are candidates for the surgery, and who might be jealous of you thinking you got an easy ride, not realizing just how much work and dedication is needed BESIDES the operation.

Oh, yeah... I had a "secret weapon"-My wife, Lauriann, who is an RN, & brings 30 years worth of experience to the table. Doubt if I would have had it quite so easy if it hadn't been for her. Plus, she played the "Mean Ol' Biach" who WOULDN'T let me cheat & have too much or stuff I wasn't sposed to have. Thing is, now I can actually eat almost anything I want-just hafta GO SLOW, & when you start to feel "full", QUIT. Generally, though, the first few times you are exposed to the tender mercies of the infamous "Dumping Syndrome",that usually is enuff to make a Believer out of most people. Yr chest/gut feels like its about to explode, yr heart starts racing, & you get this awful feeling-Not quite nausea, prolly more like what a heart attack feels like. It'll last for about 10-15 minutes or so, you see Jesus & 8 or so of the 12 apostles, & they're laughing their butts off at you- "You Stoopit So 'n' So ! You ate too much too fast, didn't ya ? We TOLD you, but you didn't listen, did you ?!? Well, Jackass, now you're gonna PAY...Mbwahahahaha..."

What...no sexy pics....:smoke:
