This is a thread where we all can collectively cry in our beer about the ones that got away. It was inspired by the following:

Over the weekend, on Sunday :(, I saw a garage sale advertised locally. Buried in the ad were the words "audiophile vinyl". Since that means different things to different people, I didn't expect much, but I drove over. Turns out the house was a mere 3 blocks away from me. I pulled up and the guy was closing up early. He said he'd only had 2 people all day. So I asked him about the vinyl. "Oh, that all went on Friday. One guy took all 350 pieces." So we got to chatting, and it turns out that in his collection he had EVERY title in the Sheffield Lab catalog, tons of MoFis, and some other rarities like UHQRs. etc.

All he would tell me is that he sold them for $10 per pile. How many in a pile, who knows, but it was obviously the mother lode. I missed it by THAT MUCH! :bs:

Friend who ran a pawn shop happened to call me while I was out scooting around in my Honda CRX Si. Since I was really tearing it up, I let it go to voicemail.

Turns out, he had a pair of "big-ass speakers, they say Pioneer". .....ended up being some HPM-1500's and they sold for........50 bucks.
 
A couple months ago, I checked the local CL right before going to bed. Noticed some just-posted Yamaha NS690 speakers: sub-$600, one owner, great looking (pics), guy from upscale part of city selling because moving, blah blah blah....
Figured I’d sleep on it and check into just what these speakers were, as I thought only Yamaha NS500/1000s were desirable. Early next a.m., by the time I checked out the history and value or these gems, they’d been quickly snatched up.
May have felt worse - or tried harder- if I hadn’t just snagged some nice JBL L-26s for $100.

You still have that?

My first new car, '86 crx si . Had it until '02 . It had 175k on it. Original clutch. Wasn't big enough for the family:dunno:.
Oh well. Sorry they're not allowed to make them like that anymore.
 
I've always had a soft spot for Radio Shack and have owned most of their interesting speakers. One pair I've never found was the early '70s Optimus that were the size and shape of Wharfedale W-70s. The model number escapes me at the moment.

A few months ago a pair appeared on my local Craigslist for $60. I called and since it was evening, arranged to pick them up the following morning. The guy told me the name of his neighborhood about 45 minutes away. The deal was I call when I reached his neighborhood and he'd talk me in.

I called when I reached the entrance to his neighborhood about ten minutes before the scheduled pickup only to be told he'd sold them to someone else earlier that morning.
 
When I first restarted the audio hobby and began thrifting I found a stack of DVD players at the local SA Store with a brand name I did not recognize. $20 Each for "OPPO" players. I did not have a clue until much later. Oh well.

About ten years ago I tried to go online to the local classifieds but as usual at the time my son was playing online video games with a group of other gamer's and was using up all of the bandwith and my laptop was not doing anything. Our internet connection has improved a little since then.

Finally after a while I yelled to him "Take a Break I need to Check Something". Logged on and there was a working Sansui AU-20000 amp for $50.00. I telephoned the guy selling it and he said his friends dad gave it to him and he didn't want it, but there was another guy already on the way over to his place to look at it. I asked him to please call me back if the guy didn't buy it, he called me back and told me the guy bought it.

Would have been a nice addition to my collection, but what can you do, easy come easy go.

Yeah, the anti-fun league that thinks if enough rules and regulations are passed that everyone will live to be 1000 pretty much strangled the small car market. Oh, and the American penchant for gigantic barges. Not me. I like little cars.

Sold that little beast in 2015, I believe. .395 lift cams (Jackson Racing) D16 block, even a 50 hp squirt of laughing gas. It was evil.
 
I was the second caller on a pair of Vandersteen 2's, and a pair of Rogers LS 3/5. $50.00 for both pair. In talking to the seller, (lady). She priced them to get rid of. Her kids let her know of her error.
 
I had to wait a couple days to payday to snag a signed copy of Aja for $100.
Not exactly the deal of the century, but it pissed me off I missed it. I can't imagine Fagan is gonna be around forever.
 
Sometimes, missing out on something means you'll luck into something else. While at an antique radio swapmeet several years ago, I spotted a nice JVC turntable on someone's table, probably a QL-A7 or somesuch. I tried to ask the seller about it, but someone else muscled in on it, so I moved on. A couple of rows down, I spotted something on another table which looked familiar, and it turned into one of my best finds ever:

Everything happens for a reason, I figure, and this is the proof I have, anyway. :D

Quite a few years back I saw a Craigslist add for a Sansui G33000 and a pair of JBL L300s for $500. It had only been posted for about 10 minutes. I dialed the number as quick as I could. The owner said the first caller was due at his house in a few minutes with cash in hand. He said the Sansui worked fine but one of the JBLs had something wrong with it. I know it's a bit unethical, but I told the owner I would give him $800 for them. Alas he was an ethical person and declined my offer.
 
I missed out on a nice used pair of Sansui SP-100i speakers locally (60 miles away one way).

Don't know if the matching 'Reference' speaker stands came with it?? That would be like finding gold alone!

I regret not jumping on it - like 'immediately'. I really do. :dunno: DUH. Doom on me.
 
Yesterday I missed a Thorens TD124 MkII at an "appointment only" estate sale. I had an appointment, but not until 11:30. Someone before me got the table for $180. It wasn't working, but since I already have one that I've done most everything to, I'm sure I could've fixed it up in short order. I don't know what the arm was (it was mostly out of the picture they posted), but I'm pretty sure that alone was worth more than $180. Sheesh. Other stuff at the sale included a few MacIntosh pieces and a Revox A77. All I bought was a bunch of records.
