Mine are 17,0XX; they also say "Model L300." No idea which woofers they had. (I have fresh factory-coned 2235Hs now.)
Zonker, your cabinets were purchased as separate parts out units. If I had the old, old docs about who the sellers were (mid 2000’s, maybe during the recession) I could figure out what was originally in there woofer wise. However, without any A suffix, likely Alnico 136 drivers. If there was a build sheet inside under the fiberglass, might be some idea of the date it was built.
No "A" after the serial numbers.
Okay, thanks for checking. Looks like the L300 wore MODEL L300 and SUMMIT badges.
Correct, the L300 model was original but JBL also added the Summit moniker on some areas or markets. At one time, the vast majority of IBL speakers, small and large, had names as well as model numbers. For JBL generally and internally, originals were serial number only, A or B suffixes indicated component or design changes to drivers and crossovers. The Alnico to ferrite switch created a number of these A models. B models had component replacements to a new or improved type. But this wasn’t always consistent - see 4333 series - A had new biamp crossover, B had Ferrite changes.
The 4315 originally had a dual port cabinet and all Alnico drivers. The 4315A has a new single port cabinet but kept the Alnico drivers. The 4315B had the ferrite 2203H, 2108H and 2105H.
The 4412 originally had ferrite 128H drivers with Woodgrain cabinet, 035Ti tweeter and adjustable controls. The 4412A (and family 4408A) changed to a Studio Gray cabinet, ditched the controls, and had the latest 052Ti tweeter.
So it can be confusing about what changes happened depending on model. The truest way to know about a particular JBL speaker is to examine the JBL Pro System Reference chart or the individual JBL Pro or Consumer tech sheet / exploded diagrams.
