When I got my L300s, one of the 136A woofers was missing, so I sold the remaining 136A on ebay and put 2235s in their place. Much better woofer, IMO.

... I have a pair of 2235Hs just waiting for L300 cabinets, but I agree that the 2216ND looks like a worthwhile upgrade.

Seems like I am missing two pieces of wood on the tops of the speakers, like along the edge where the side veneer stops. Should I have some made or some anybody have some off a scrap cabinet that I could refinish and use?

Slowly, unfortunately. I have been recovering from back surgery so I have not been able to touch them. I did get the wood pieces I needed for the top cut and finished. The woofers have come back from Ken @ Upland Loudspeaker with new surrounds, new spiders, recharged magnets and entirely cleaned; they look amazing. I have yet to install as I cannot lift over 5lbs by order of my surgeon for a while. Cannot wait to finish. Sorry for the delay!

You get well. Everything else is secondary, even these speakers. I have dealt with back pain and issues since 19 years old, it's a booger. Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.

Thanks, dude! I am 26, got injured at my last job in January 2018. Took forever to get the surgery I needed, hoping since I am still young I will bounce back quick.

From my surgery experience (burst disc), I gather that getting up and walking (etc) is very important to good/fast recovery (in my case, at least). It took about 8-12 weeks to be able to go back to work, and another year to feel more or less 'normal' again.
My injury also occurred in my 20s, also at work (but my Dr. back then loudly proclaimed that he would not support a workmen's comp claim - how times have changed!) so didn't deal with it until I had very good insurance and it became intolerable....40 yrs later!
Now 5 yrs post op, limited to 50lbs, but am pretty much fine within that....so can no longer lift my L200s
but really don't need to.
Beats blackouts from pain, in any event.
Best wishes for a good & fast recovery, and matching listen sessions to come (which are a great way to spend recovery time!).

I don't typically lift speakers, even heavy "bookshelf" speakers get put on my speaker hand-truck. I feel that having a dedicated (quality folding-type) hand-truck with my audio gear is well worth the small investment, less risk to the gear and to my back. I plan to get really old and not injure my back in the process. When it's dedicated you can attach padding and it's always ready.

I had a laminectomy and discectomy. They removed part of my spine to create a window to remove my S1-L5 disc, as it had completely ruptured, and the gel from inside the disc had created a mass on my spinal cord as it sat there for a year and 9 months.
Ahh, yeah, I figured that. Seems that since we've only been walking upright for, what....200,000 years, we've not quite got it right.
That area is the focal point for strain when one bends at the waist.
The price we pay for bipedalism.

Sorry for the lack of replies! My back surgery was brutal and still trying to recover so I can move onto the next surgery. Finally getting a friend to help me finish putting these beasts together next week. Will snap some photos and give a listening impression when they are done, and then they are probably unfortunately going up for sale. Just got a job again in time to get laid off due to the virus situation. Hope you all are keeping safe!

Do whatever you can but please don’t sell them. I’ve owned my Jubals since I bought them new in 1976. I went through a period in the 80s when I lost appreciation for them and went in other directions speakerwise. Thank God I didn’t sell them, they’ve been my favorites for the past 20 years.
