The Name That Album thread

Okay here are some hints. It's a four-piece that started out as an indie band and eventually got swept up by a scene and signed by a major. Two of the members are a couple of larger brothers...

Okay another set of clues. The band was an amalgam of psychedelic rock, garage rock and punk. The lead singer turned on a famous front man onto Leadbelly, who did in fact "have a gun."

They were forefathers of the grunge movement. The lead singer has collaborated with Isobel Campbell and Queens of the Stone Age.

So the guy turned Kurt Cobain onto Leadbelly?, is that right?...as I recall, Nirvana did a great acoustic cover of leadbelly's "Where did you sleep last night" (which, if you havent heard, I highly recommend both).

Found!;

The Screaming Trees- Invisible Lantern:yes:

Found it by looking up the nirvana cover of leadbelly, which linked to Kurt Cobain singing a Lead Belly song with Mark Lanegan, who was a member in "The Screaming trees", a solo act, "queens of the stone age", and "the gutter twins". One of those lead me down the right path:D.

Yeah, I really felt like I gave enough clues...I didn't realize Screaming Trees were so esoteric. Go ahead 33.

well, i'd never heard of them:scratch2:...then again, I "missed" the grunge period entirely, so that may have something to do with it. Thinking about it some more, I may have heard them casually mentioned, but not in any form of context.

I'll be right back folks, hopefully with a fun one:thmbsp:

Okay, a bit "different" than some of the others- but that's the point, isn't it:D

Cool_Manchu may know this one, if he has a good memory;)...how about we let some guesses float around before answering, if you can remember it:dunno:;

band name was in the upper right, title was on the bottom. Clues will be given readily, as this can be a hard one to just stumble upon.

Let's see what you guys think of it:thmbsp:

I'm hanging my head in shame over that one. Though I'd have gotten it with the later clues, I sold my '74 Fender Strat to their guitarist, Gary Lee Connor.

That looks a lot like Doug Johnson's artwork for Judas Priest.

Similar, definately- you have the right genre:yes:

Any ideas on this current offering?

for one, it's really cool you sold your strat to someone in a known band...the '74 was a CBS (?) era fender, correct?

Here's a clue, as mentioned, the album cover is similar to Judas Priest, but the type of genre is similar too, to the new wave of british heavy metal... however, they have nothing to do with britian.

This band is also a branching tree of members that start other bands in the same genre, which most are lesser-known, outside of their native country.

If you can get the right country, this is really easy;)

:scratch2:...12 hours, how about another hint, without giving a huge amount away.

the company that recorded and distributed/pressed the album (mainly cds, I think) has a bear as their logo. It's probably not one that you know, but that could narrow it down to a country;) (lets play axis and allies)

-lord, I hope I didn't break the topic:(.

Playing with Fire by Aria

The bear clue got me looking at Russian metal bands.

I'm gonna go ahead, since I'm pretty sure of my guess above.

Now for something completely different. The album and artist names were at the top, around and about the red bars, before I edited them out. I didn't crop because the photo of the main artist is in the star-shaped inset.
