The Official "Build" thread for the V4 WYN Phono preamplifier

I don't, personally, have a need. It's all fun.
Other than, perhaps, improved isolation in the RIAA stage, there's really no improvements that I can think of to the current design.
So, what the heck.

DHL dropped this off today! I have a box of goodies from Mouser waiting in my lab/build space as well. Finally, after following along from the beginning of Wyn's (and team's!) project, I'll be following through on the build. For the chassis, I do have a DIY blank chassis that I purchased some time ago based on a recommendation from Wyn (IIRC); however, I'm also considering repurposing the case from a 90's era Aragon D2A DAC.

Who made the board?

For those of us not fortunate enough to have access to a hot air desoldering device I have found good success using Chip Quik for easy removal of SMD components.
I use Chipquik SMD 4.5NL.

Guys, any progress on the remote-controlled version of the "cheapphono"?
I may or may not be interested in building one but I enjoy reading about the journey.

We have defined the ucontroller, the relays, the buck converter, IR receiver module and supply active filter, so the hardware has been defined. Bill will develop the ucode.

I'm working on this but slowly. Current plans are to be able to control mm/mc, gain, warp, stereo, mono functions remotely. Will probably have option for 2 line lcd ànd LED indicators. Local control via rotary encoder. Also remote via IR.

Hello, after searching the internet I only found an 18V 0.75A adapter, will that be enough? Thanks Pavel.

Thank you, or buy a PCB transformer EI54-18.8 1x18V 16VA 230V and make a wall connector for a 230VAC socket. Pavel

I'd try the wall wart. Far easier/safer in my book.
The only concern I have is that I don't have any insight into the series resistance of the wall wart output. That affects the peak output voltage under no load conditions which is a reliability concern, and the unregulated ripple prior to the active sections of the power supply, which is a minor and likely non-existent performance concern for the V4 without the remote-control function.
That would still apply to the dedicated transformer if there was not a full spec sheet.

So I found it PCB transformer EI54-18.8 1x18V 16VA 230V Myrra 44305 No-load voltage 22.1VAC Secondary current 889mA 16VA. Thanks for the answer. Pavel

The main filter cap after the half wave rectifiers needs to be 35v. If that is the case, I'm certain that both solutions will be fine.
I still think that the wall wart is a more pragmatic choice.
In either case you should keep the transformer well away from the phono stage.
