The P-Mount owners club

Late to the party, I suppose. But what is TTDD?

Speaking of VN45HE styli, I have 3 NOS NIB units. All are in perfect condition. Perfect suspensions. Seller sold as “untested, unknown hours.” Many bidders stayed away. $50 each.

Suspension elastomer, commonly called a damper in Japan. Its properties were to be more consistent across a broader temperature range than the typical materials.

I would have to look up the entire Technics stylus catalogue to find out what other models were "blessed" with the TTDD - probably every cart with a hollow boron tube stylus was. In case of failure, replacing the suspension with something else shouldn't be much of a problem. Elastometers can also be replaced on most MC carts, however, I'm yet to hear of someone who has successfuly "cracked" a 310MC open to work its innards. Just the opposite, they say this model's sealing method is so meticulously intrincated that it's virtually impossible to open one without destroying it. And I have a third one that needs a new cantilever. Apparently, at some point, the previous owner tried to "change the old stylus" by removing the cantilever with some type of tweezers, obviously not knowing it was unreplaceable. That left a couple "stab wounds" and scars on the golden body. I'm still trying to look inside and see if the suspension is still in place, because if it is, I might have ESCo or someone get it going again.

Lucky boy! I found two for sale, gambled and lost. In my case, even with the hardened susension, both were riding very low. So I treated one of them with car-break oil. The suspension gave in well enough, but it didn't return to the right angle, as if the suspension shrunk as it dried, so I inserted a little piece of suspension rubber as far inside as it would go and this fixed the angle issue. Sounds fantastic. BTW, our old mate Joseph has recently made public, through Instagram, that he can now safely replace V15 problematic suspension rubbers, as he has developed a safe technique for it. Me, having a couple of NOS VN35MR waiting to be summoned, I think of saving the other VN45 so I'd have a spare hypereliptical tip to replace the one on the VN45LT when need be.

I had Joseph restone my 310MC. He used the stone from a ADC PSX40 ( I have several so losing one was not too big a deal
). I wanted as close to original as possible, thus the nude 2x7. It is a really nice cartridge and plays beautifully. A higher end stone next time? Hard to believe it could get much better, I would not want it brighter. I had a second body with a dead channel. Joseph was not successful in repairing. Good to know he can repair Shure suspensions now.

I have several (4) Empire 999TE/X styli that I got from the Voice of Music. Nude tombstone 2x7 ellipticals. He may still have some (He does) $40. I would have used those for stones rather than rip out tips from the PSX40 titanium cantilevers. Those 40s are much more rare and valuable for resale if you don’t like them.

I thought those were Diasa tips, not real nude tips. Does Joseph now replaces just the stone or still cuts the cantilever and attachs to the old cantilever?

I found one of those on a turntable I bought at a thrift store. Surprisingly it was in good condition although the turntable itself was not. I am guessing that the turntable was stored poorly and that led to its rough exterior. In truth I only bought it for parts, but the cartridge was a nice surprise. Under magnification it looked quite nice and playing it in
What do you think of the p532?

my SL-QD33 proved that it was still in very good shape. The majority of those in that era that were replacements from the dealer for Technics T4P style units are very decent performers and have a good elliptical stylus.

thank you. I was not able to find that information. I wish I could examine the stylus in detail. A replacement stylus is not that expensive, nor is a replacement cartridge with stylus. I have just begun, or rather re-taken up vinyl. I have collected about 150 vinyl records from estate and yard sales. Most are in atrocious condition and wil not see a stylus for some time. Perhaps after I get a decent quality cleaning system.

I would suggest suggest staying with an elliptical. There are many good relatively cheap options for that series of P Mount. Turntableneedles and Lp Gear should have what you need. As far as cleaning a lot of good can be done with distilled water and a new fresh microfiber cloth.
