The P-Mount owners club

It looks like an elliptical version of the AT3482P, but with looser specs. Since the diamond is 3x7, just like the AT92E's, the level of IGD would theoretically be the same.

It *supposedly* has a bit of a different shape to it or something? But hearing is believing I guess. It would be worth it if it beats the 92e on the IGD and sibilance issues like the other upgrades I have for that do (and for cheaper too). Think I gotta try one of these....
 
The Audio-Technica AT450 is a final-gen p-mount with a treated straight cantilever and a nude "tombstone" 3x7 elliptical diamond. The Studio Reference Series 6006 is a twin, if that helps. Currently being sold on eBay for $32 shipped. Same seller also has a bunch of ATU4040EP cartridges which are the same thing with a longer name, $35. Both look just like this PT600:

I saw that - and then found a NOS Empire 195LT for just $24 and grabbed that instead!

Yea - I think he didn't realize what it was worth? One of those 'sells anything from a garage sale' types. Didn't list it as a cart - just the stylus, but it was for the whole enchilada. Had to grab it. Been wanting to compare the output on it to my other one, which is about 8 db lower than it should be. Want to see the magnets too (maybe I just have to flip mine over?).

Hopefully Waulta and Needlestein see this, as I think it's something I discussed with them a while back....

I have an old Empire 195LT that I popped a Empire S485 hyper elliptical stylus on (246-DEX). I didn't have a usable styli on it when I got it, so this was the only styli I have personally used it with. While it sounded pretty good, it never had the volume of my other carts (usually 6-8 db lower). Kinds 'flat' sounding compared to my Empire 875XLT, but that's a quad cart so I figured it was just 'normal'.

The other day I found a NOS Empire 195LT online for $24 bucks and figured "Why not?". It arrived today and I compared it to my old 195LT, and without a doubt it was louder - and clearer with a conical styli too. That got me tinkering.... I remember in my talks with either Waulta or Needlestein that they said their 195LT cart did NOT have a magnet in it like mine did. So, I popped of the styli and sure enough, no magnet. So, I put my S845 styli on it - still lower in volume and such. I then tried it on my old cart without a magnet - no change.

I then remembered I bought TWO of the S845 stylus' from Gary, and dug out the new one. I popped it on the old cart - and BINGO! We have volume, more detail, ect.

So all this time, I basically had a bad stylus I guess. Go figure.... But now I have TWO 195LT's that are working as they should. A truly nice setup, especially for the price!

Excellent! The Pickering is, by far, my favorite p-mount cartridge. I even bought a NOS spare. Can't get too much of a really good thing. Thanks for the input.
 
P-mount is how I got started with vinyl.

Right now I only own three p-mount cartridges, but all of them are pretty good (all were purchased NOS on eBay):

Shure M110HE (nude hyperelliptical stylus)
Empire 480LT (nude 0.2 x 0.7 elliptical)
ADC PSX-40 (nude 0.2 x 0.7 elliptical--I purchased an NOS stylus for this one)

Hey guys,

How does this AT450 compare to AT-92ECD?

Wife called from a thrift today, and I ended up with yet another TT I don't need - this a Hitachi HT-L303 with a Shure M75 cartridge/stylus.

Edit: Though I guess the main differences will be quality of diamond, and nude vs. bonded mounting. Almost guessing the AT450 was a +$100 cartridge when new.

Though I would be a bit curious as to how the sound compares as well. I have heard an AT 92 ECD, as well as an AT 3482P on my last P-Mount, and neither moved me enough to get me to want to keep the table. I actually thought the 3482P was rather disappointing vs the online hype it received, while the 92 was OK, but nothing especially great.
 
Interesting - now that I’m home looking at the table, I see that the M75p has a different shaped stylus holder than a typical M75. It has the full plastic front like an M92.

Any ideas for stylus compatibility here?

EDIT - after further inspection, it is an Encore Me75p cartridge. Can find options for this.

As of Friday I joined this club. I bought a used Sony PS-LX510 that came with its stock cartridge. Today a Grado Black 1 should be arriving (though it may be delayed a day).
