the Threshold owners thread

Hey Stanger !!!!!! You heading back up here again ???? I owe you breakfast remember!!!!!

Man...I wish. Don’t think it’s in the cards this year. Sure do miss the PNW in a bad way. My connection up there moved from Lincoln City and is now up in Washington near Seattle (Lake Cushman). I friggin loved Oregon. I’ll be back.

I became the owner of a restored Threshold 400a about a year or so ago.

I cannot say I've ever heard 100 watts that had more kick to it. Also, some had said there was austerity and a clinical-ness to the sound.

Thru my EV Sentry VI's or my McIntosh XRT20's, I don't hear anything but amazing sound.

Did I mention the heatsinks look like some of the armor used in Mad Max 2 ??

Crazy stuff.

lol , yes Mad MAX ! NAILED IT !

Inside my S-450e amp. I saw it on eBay for $1,350 a few years back which is a GREAT price. It turned out to be a Pawn Shop in Schaumburg, IL. which was within driving distance. I called them, asked them to hold it, went out and picked it up for about $100 less after a very fun haggle. LOL View attachment 1769780

NICE score , nothing like a build that you can back your service truck in like a garage to work on it !

I understand. Nelson Pass owned Threshold and designed all of the their amps until the end of 1991 when he left to start Pass Labs. More than a dozen of the amps designed and marketed during that time were Class A.

You should also expand your search to include early Forte amps. Forte was Threshold's "budget" line, budget being a relative term only in comparison to the Threshold line. Mr. Pass still waived his magic wand over the Forte amps, and the family resemblance in design, build, and performance is unmistakable. The Model 1, 1a, and 3 are all Nelson Pass designs, sound excellent, and can be had for much less money than a similarly-powered Threshold amp. I own several Forte amps, including two Model 3's, and can attest to their build quality and sound.
I did not know this great info !

You’re still using the SA-1’s? You only need to use one set of main outs from the pre...left channel to one amp and right channel to the other. Ditch the y-cables.
OK that's the way is it is set up today yes , thank you , I was just looking at all four outputs and had an Epiphany and I know how dangerous that can be:rolleyes:

I've got a couple of Threshold pieces:

Stasis 2
Stasis 3 (x2)
SL-10
NS-10
FET-9e (in an NS-10 case...apparently it was upgraded by Threshold at some point)

PS - would love to find a FET-1 Mk 2 (at a non-ridiculous price).

The other day on Audiogon, I missed a one-owner FET-1 Mk 2 w/OBM for $450 shipped by a couple of hours.

The very next day, I was second in line for a local, one-owner pair of JBL L65 Jubals for $400. Just needed new surrounds on the woofers!

Is there a time machine thread somewhere on AK?!?!?!?

Proud owner of S/500 amp. Bought it used 2 years ago, outside is flawless, perfect condition. No issues, sounds great, but it is almost 40 years old...should I be thinking about having some work done? I know of Jon Soderberg's work but that entails shipping this beast. I am near Seattle, wondering if I could trust a local repair shop to do any work? And what should be replaced?
Thanks

Hello everyone,
I have a chance to buy a Threshold amp to power my Thiels CS2.4 and I'm wondering if anyone has opinions on either the Threshold 4000 or Stasis 2. Does anyone have preferences of one over the other? I believe the Stasis is updated and the 4000 may not be but I'm still interested in how they would compare if they are both in good shape.
Thanks!
